The real bigger picture was that Tomlin always sucked. He just Barry Switzered his way to 2 (not 3) SBs.

Let's get the record straight. Tomlin-coached Steelers teams made it to TWO Super Bowls, NOT THREE. Steelers won the Super Bowl in 2008 and lost the Super Bowl in 2010 season. Mike Tomlin had absolutely nothing to do with the 2005 Super Bowl victory. He was still coaching the secondary for the Tampa Bay Bucaneers at that time.

After some research. the Steelers under Tomlin had a 2-9 stretch from the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013. And a 2-8 stretch from the end of 2020 through a 1-3 start in 2021. So he is not as bad as he has ever been, but he has had losing stretches of 2-6, 4-5, and 2-6 in the last 3 seasons, which some have called these rebuilding years. He has been able to squeeze the turnip a number of times to get to 8-8 or into the playoffs. Hopefully, there is some juice still in the 2025 turnip.

watt is a really good player. Elite I’m not sure. He is being single blocked often now and not taking advantage of it.

Well, Barry Switzer won a SB just like Tomlin. So there's equivalence as I said.

Barry didn't hang around for a second go around. Tomlin did. It's debatable in either direction whether Switzer would have made another SB if he hung around for longer.

I guess I should rephrase and say that Tomlin didn't suck always, but he's just a more successful version of Barry Switzer.

 

The Tomlin dysfunction with personnel, on field coaching gaffes, and with hiring **** coaches was obvious to me by 2015. What took so long for so many? The Steeler mystique maybe? Well that’s gone forever thanks to:

Austin is the scapegoat. The main issue is the man in charge. Until he changes, nothing will.


The only way for true change to happen is when Tomlin leaves on his own terms. A far bigger question remains though; what the hell will the team look like in 2027?! Time will tell.

 

There's no-one left to carry Tomlin, even Rodgers can't do it, Watt is in decline, and the defense is totally cooked. Ben's long gone, so is DLB and the old defense with Troy etc is long long gone.

• And this is why non-Steeler fans can't believe I want Tomlin gone. Their not looking at the big picture. I too would think Tomlin was a good HC if I rooted for another team.

 

Exactly! I live down here in Dolphin land and most Fins fans talk about MT glowingly. I suppose I get considering all they have gone through the last 25 years.

 

Eagle fans think highly of him and always on my case when I b!tch about him.

 

This is why I think Watt can be traded. I think NFL coaches can see he still has great talent but isn’t being used effectively. That’d be different if he was in another team’s system.
