I am not denying it and stand by it. However, I never said we should quit. Getting better, younger players in the antithesis of quitting. It's a young man's game.

I didn’t interpret his post as quitting, I took it as try something different.

We all know the definition of insanity.

You mean only if we lose we should do that? That's what you posted. If we lose we should try to get better and younger? What if we win?

I agree. I think Weill is the talent and we can’t lose that. Go get a young innovator on offense as the HC and get a tenured DC with some experience to coach that side of the ball. The whole coaching staff needs to go. They need to cut the old overpriced veterans that indeed means Watt, Heyward and Ramsey they can probably trade Watt and Ramsey and get draft picks and rebuild. If they can’t move up to get one of the top two QBs in the draft this year I would trade away draft capital to accumulate future draft capital so you can indeed get a top QB next year as in 2027.

I would spend the excess salary cap space in bringing in young blue chip talent to build around and if we have to live with Rudolph and or this young QB from Ohio State for a few years so be it. The amount of good players careers being wasted under Tomlin or because of him and poor decisions and coaching is a shame - Watt, Pickens are two that come to mind.

Exactly if all the Tomlin supporters believe it is primarily a talent problem and not coaching then they should be in support of starting other players. After all it’s just execution right?

If Rooney is going to continue to believe in this style of HC then he might as well get Belicheck. He can at least put together a competent Defense and have a disciplined team. It can’t be any worse than what we have had under Tomlin the last five years. Although I would prefer neither.

It's sports entertainment supported by Fantasy Football and sports gambling. I think the NFL could one day end up like going to the movies.

As me and you have both debated just before the start of the season the same, do you really believe Tomlin has the gall to pull Aaron Rodgers to play Will Howard?! Even if that were to somehow happen, that would also mean that something has happened to Mason Rudolph.

Tomlin would play Mason first before he'd ever give Will any meaningful snaps.

Not sure why people think Howard is the future. They are not going to sit Aaron Rodegrs for sixth round pick who isnt even the number 2 QB, i dont care what our record is. You have maybe one of the greastest QB's playing well in what looks to be his final season, there is no way on earth you sit him. Also if we lose to the Colts we would still be in first place.

I don't agree with the OP for a full scale youth movement. That said, I do agree with the fact that there does need to be some form of change; namely in the secondary. Given how Deshon Elliot is lost for the Season, might as well try out Jalen Ramsey at Safety this time around. Slay needs his snaps reduced and have the likes of JPJ and a trade target be the starters. Only person now that springs to mind is Riq Woolen from Seattle but who knows what Seattle's asking price is?!

For Offense?! Isaac Seumalo is essentially out for a while. Spencer Anderson can fill in but the team will need another OL for depth. Might as well use Andrus Peat for the jumbo packages though that would test the amount of inactive personnel for certain.

Not too many other options I can think of at the moment.

I give the Steelers a 3% chance of beating the colts and I feel that is being very generous. Colts are the best team in the NFL right now closely followed by the Chiefs. Even if we lose and become 4-4 it is still too early to make major personnel changes such as putting in Will Howard and starting those you suggested. There are still some very winnable games on this back half of the schedule and the only way to make the playoffs is to play the most experienced players. More than likely won’t mean much other than another feather in the cap for Tomlin and his non losing season record. The objective still has to be to make the playoffs. Losing Elliot maybe the early nail in the coffin but you still have to play the games out. I honestly think the bad calls and non calls played a huge factor in yesterday’s loss. 3rd down penalties to extend drives are happening way too often in the NFL.

There some team son the rise.

    1. Buffalo - has been there, they just need to beat KC,
    2. Colts - Red hot, probably the best team in the AFC.
    3. Denver - Bo Nix will be very good, he already is.
    4. New England - Drake Maye is looking like a real good QB.
    5. Chargers - They are 2nd tier but can play ball.
    6. Chiefs - Probably on the fade but still can get back into that first tier.

The upcoming stretch will be a challenge.
We play the Colts and Chargers. This could be 2 more consecutive losses, very easily.
We get the Bengals at home.
We then have the Bears and the Bills. Probably 2 more losses.
At this point we most likely will be 5-7 or 4-8.

I don't think you start playing guys just because.

    Re: Trade Deadline
I don't think there is any trade for a player that can help us.
I do think trading for picks would helps us. I don't think we have the front office to do that sort of thing.
For example, Buffalo could probably use Cam to help with the run defense, I'd trade him.
Hightower might could help a team like the Chargers, I'd trade him.

    What should happen, likely won't.
I think Tomlin has ran his course and become stale. I'm not in the "He-Man Tomlin Hater's Club" but I do think a great coach has become stale.
If he wore to let Austin go, maybe look at some new candidates for the OL coach and be looking forward to the changes to come, maybe it would be ok...
It's no secret, I don't like our front office. I would scour some teams out there and look for a new guy. That will never happen.
I am not at all comfortable with them handling this upcoming draft.

I feel like we need to grab impact players, players we've scouted and buy into.. instead of just hoping something falls to us.... scraps if you will.

    In a bad division too.

At this point, it wouldn't be too surprising if the AFCN champ has 8 wins IMO.

On top of that, the business model of this team is to prioritize the next game over the next season.

I'd be shocked if we traded bigger name players for picks. Even though I don't think it would be an unreasonable path forward. Just like I thought it would have been reasonable not to bring Ben back for his final year. But it's not how the Steelers have operated since at least the start of Cowher's tenure.

The model should always be to build upon what you have. We have very good players on this team. Some are passed their prime and not what they once were, true. But that doesn't mean they aren't still good players.

Our LB corps is getting younger. Our DL is getting younger. The secondary got older, but it got better, at least for now. Hopefully the younger DBs are learning the trade.

OL has gotten younger. This entire offense has improved over last season. I expect they will continue to improve. The run game was really coming along. We finally had a Roman Wilson sighting. We have been using the TEs and the middle of the field like fans have been screaming for better and more often.

10 games left to play and fans are jumping off buildings(figuratively).

I feel like we are still in a good spot. The season will get tougher, like they always do. We will be fine whatever the outcome.

I hope some desperate network ( ESPN ) gives Tomlin a deal he can't say no to and he leaves at the end of the season. My are odds 10-1.

I hope we trade Tomlin. Imagine that! My odds are 100-1

I have all but given up on Art Rooney II coming to his senses. No odds given.

Shifting focus to our 12 2026 draft picks.

I think the model should be to try to build the roster so that you can have a window where the offense and defense are both good to very good at the same time.

That's why the loss of Shazier was so crushing IMO. If he doesn't get a freak accident (+ Tuitt's brother dying), then I think our offense and defense would have been good at the same time and maybe we would have had a chance to compete for a SB.

I think this is why they were happy to try Russ out last year and Rodgers this year. And why they were OK getting a little older trading Minkah for Ramsey. I think we were trying to get at least something resembling a run together for Cam...and Watt while he's still in / close to his prime.

But if we don't do anything this year, that hope is pretty faint IMO.

I don't like the idea of blowing it all up. But if there's a shot to get into the top 3-5 picks this year or next year, then I take it no matter who we have to trade. You need a very good QB to genuinely compete. And you generally get those guys by drafting very early. But if we did something super-dramatic like that (e.g. trade Watt...which we won't because of the dead money), you have to end up with assets we can use to trade up and get a top 3 pick IMO.

If all it nets us is a late 1st...well, I'd much rather have an aging Watt than another <insert any of our 1st round picks since Watt here>.

I don’t like how the Steelers are trying to rebuild if you can call it that.
Why do we keep getting past prime players year after year? Work on the young players you got from the draft. Shape and mold them.
We currently are just putting band aids on major deficiencies. Do it right, tear it down , draft players for the future.
This getting retread qbs and dbs isn’t working. We just keep spinning in the mud.
Kind of frustrating as a fan. How is New England and Indy doing it? We needed a #2 wr for a couple of years now. We can’t even address that.
The secondary got better? Wow pass it so I can take a toke! :roflmao:

I disagree tearing it down is required to successfully rebuild this team.
