Flacco was hitting Higgins and Chase in stride allowing good YAC. There's no way Steelers DBs could bully the Bengals WRs without a penalty. They got owned.

You make them pay after the catch and yes they could have done it. They just didn't

Yes. Against the Browns their receivers were peeking at the DBs before the catch because those guys got their bells rung a few times earlier. Resulted in some drops

If the defense gets embarrassed again Sunday night I wouldnt be surprised to see Austin get the Canada treatment.

Canada needed to be historically bad for over 40 games to finally get fired....Austin is awful but I would be very surprised if that happens

It's telling that the only positive Tomlin could give the defense in his PC was he was happy they got a stop on the Bengals in the 4th quarter, giving the Steelers a chance. That was it for the whole game.

Austin's gameplans do remind me a lot of Canada. There looks to be no overlying scheme to them, just random looks.

I have seen enough of MT and Teryl Austin and players that underperform on a consistent basis week in week out.

    Hahahah…. Austin sounds real stupid.

according to that, Austin sold out against the run on that final drive because he thought bengals only needed 25 yards so they would run it.

Hahahah….. the ONE person on the planet who thought Bengals wouldn’t keep passing happened to be the Steelers DC…

this clown show just never ends. From Canada to Austin.

Wow… I guess this explains the defense completely ignoring Chase at the start of the drive. I mean, he only had something like 14 catches at that point so why worry about him?

When will we ever see a change to this debacle?

He totally over thought the whole series. He is thinking they just need a field goal to win and lots of time to get in range. So instead of trying to defend them getting any yards he figures they will run the ball and eat up the clock for the walk off. Yes better to leave Chase to do what he do and stuff the run so they can conserve the clock. It shocks me the complexity of their stupidity.

Letting Austin go might help a great deal but he's not the head of the snake.

I was watching a bit of the Iowa beat down of Minnesota yesterday and saw a play that speaks volumes to how messed up the middle of the steeler's defense is. Iowa plays zone and they conceded they couldn't hang with the gopher's wrs so their DB's put themselves in position to tackle the catch to yards short of the 1st down marker. They weren't worried about the backfield or getting a big hit. No they stayed with the guy in thier zone and played for the tackle. It's a simple college concept that seems to be beyond the Steelers coaching staff. Do your job

It would have been a reasonable assessment if they were starting in field goal range.

Would not shock me but Canada showed they are willing to go against their normal M.O.

    Sure

But Canada was flat out horrible

Austin’s defense has had good years and his contract is up at the end of the year so no reason to panic

Well the winless Jets beat joe flacco and the bengals but we could not.

yeah, sure short week. Well it was a short week for cinci too but they looked better prepared. And last i checked its a 4 hour drive to Cincinnati. And a 1 hour flight? So i dont give much credence to the away game factor in this case.

But it was a short week and it was an away game

And to call it a one hour flight is foolish

None the less they should have played better no excuse

    yes.

Austin thinks the way the Steelers run their own offense: uber conservative. Steelers offense would run in that situation and try a 50 yard FG so Austin assumed the same for cinci

The only difference I see between Canada and Austin is that Austin has good/great players, but Canada had a pile of crap QBs and whiny WRs.

on their own merits, both Austin and Canada are equally garbage.

give Canada Rodgers and Canada would still be the OC.

Not sure either team could hang thier hat on that game 39-38 looks bad even against a one win team. Flacco continues to show he can drive the expensive car but sooner or later he is going to wreck.

Your right about the time to get there by plane, however, the flight time is about an hour but i see there are no direct flights so the time to get to cinci depends on the layover time, say 3 to 5 hours, still, like you said, no excuse, specially for a team that expects to make noise in the playoffs.

yeah he's going to wreck because he could never handle pressure. And he’s 40 years old to boot. Just cant understand how we couldn’t get pressure on him behind that all pro line (s)
