5 Steelers Poised For a Breakout Season

pouncey has struggled at times. now with foster and colon on either side of him could have alot to do with it. pouncey has room for improvement though, most of that will come because the line should be more matched up as players. i've talked about this before. mobile players matched up with mobile players. he and DD could do some damage in the league this year on the move. i can't wait to see it. it's been a long time coming.

as for keisel, he led us by a long shot in qb pressures last year. i'm seeing guys around him took a step backwards which is making it look worse for us then it really is. i'm not seeing the lost a step part.

mclendon will help the DE's since they will have to double him or pay. if woodley is in shape it will also help ziggy. harrison wasen't at full stregnth and it hurt keisel too. each of the 5 positions across the board on the d- front counts on each position taking up a certain amount of blockers that create a mismatch somewhere along the front. one position can also take down the play at another position too. i think we have seen it decline together over the years and it's harder to pick out why the decline.

the Nose Tackle starts it off. if he's not double teamed, someone else will be. mclendon should be a 3 down NT. him being doubled will trickle out to the other 4 on the front 5. it makes teams have to use a TE or RB to help and possibly both. that limits receivers in the patterns. not only the front 5 but it could help the blitzes by foote and timmons.

i'm liking our defense this year. it has very high possibilities. some guys haven't played a full season before though. mclendon, worilds, the tezmanian devil.

 

I'm sorry but I don't agree with the Pouncey assessment. Yes, I realize that his kankles are killing him but I hope he finds a way to get around that. Try carrying 300 lbs on your ankles and then we will talk. Really, when he is healthy he is much better than the 16th best in the league. Remember that his ankle was injured by another lineman getting pushed into him. If you watch him, he is always looking for a block and makes it if he can latch on.

 

well yes i do carry that weight around on my ankles. well actually my feet, but hey. LOL

i think we will see him doing this year what he does best, and thats being on the move and making multiple blocks downfield. just think , if we had one more good mobile guard we could run to both sides of the line. i'd like to see gilbert and foster about 15lbs. lighter. or at least less gut muscle hanging over their belts. i'm ready for some lean mean blocking machines on this o-line. may the best man win in camp.
