You do not intentionally not get a touchdown when you're down six points late in the game. False start on the next play and your back past the 5. Get called for holding, now you're outside of the 10. Turnover and you're completely screwed. Way too many bad things are on the table.

Muth might have thought that since our defense was still fresh, they'd have no problem stopping the Bengals in the last drive. They we're so fresh because they rested the entire 2nd half.

We need a dunce cap icon for threads like this also to be worn by all the Friday morning QBs agreeing. And this after knowing the Steelers already had an amazing TD run called back earlier in the 1st qtr by a penalty where they had to settle for a FG.

While this is true, I think with the new rules for kickoffs and kicking balls, it's going to be pretty hard to keep teams out of FG range when protecting slim leads at the end of games.

But certainly something this D has to be better at given the names and contracts on that side of the ball.

How about a defensive stop? I think one time one this drive we had them third and long. Don’t get me started on third and longs.

Truth be told, the Bengals actually had a TD, but Higgins chose wisely to slide.

I don’t blame the new kickoff rules? Didn’t the last Bengal drive start at the 25? Maybe I am wrong on that.

It was pretty unseemly to hear Tomlin complaining about the Browns trading Flacco to the Bengals. Coming into the season we thought we were going to have to face Burrow. So we got Flacco instead. That's good for us, stop complaining and beat him!

Here's something that just came to me: what if, knowing that they really didn't have any time to prep for the Cincy game due to the short week this week, they actually did their prep for this game before the Flacco trade. They get all prepped for Browning, then the trade happens, and they don't have time to game plan for Flacco. That could explain why Tomlin was pissed about that.

Crazy stat from the Terrible podcast.

Road AFC North teams are 2-18 for in-division Thursday games. 0-10 in the last 10 games.

Steelers are 0-7 in these games.

If this is all the games, it looks like we get the short end of the stick here. Not only does this mean we aren't great on the road on Thursday. It also means that we're getting screwed for road games in-division.

If there have been 20 times AFCN teams have played together since they started doing road games, each AFCN team should have been on the road 5 times. But we have 7. I don't know, but my guess is that the Rats have the fewest number of these road games in division. Just like they just happened to have had the most extra rest days vs. their opponents than any team has ever had last season.

It was a hold, but when you call that, you expect it to be called even. Wasn't the case. Only hold called on the Bengals oline was the one that was so blatant off the timing of the snap, they had to call it. Every successful run except 1-2 Flacco scramble and one other, by the Bengals was due to a hold. Not to mention the LT false starting on nearly 50% of the snaps. It was so bad they started using it on run plays where he'd do the kick move like he was pass pro and release on run blocking.

They just call a timeout on the plus side of 2 minutes. The point is to actually get passed the point in which the clock would stop you would have to be in 3rd and 4th down. So if you got it to the 2:00 minute warning on 3rd down and dont score, your best case scenario is a 4th down play, in which you either lose if you dont convert or they get the ball with about 1:15 needing a field goal. Also like people are saying, if you get a penalty, you lower your chances of scoring a td but also put yourself in a position where you would have to pass in order to score, so even if you get it in after a few tries you likely didnt force any timeouts burned due to incompletions.

Steelers are a victim of their fan base. Through Roethlisberger's reign they knew an audience will tune in for a TNF. It would seem that BAL should be catching up on TNF with LJ's popularity at QB.

In theory, it sounds like a great plan. Step out, burn up the clock, get the TD and win with the Browns having no time left. But nothing is guaranteed. We had to have a touchdown and not a field goal. That means crossing that goal line. Do we kneel down to burn the clock and then try to punch it in on the 4th down? What if we don't make it?

If we had the well oiled tush push that the Eagles have, maybe....but even then, they do not always make it. Far better for us to take the points for the TD when we know that we can get them.
