Calvin Austin update as of October first

He is beginning to seem a lot like Ray Shero towards the end of his tenure with the Penguins. He began to believe his own press and it was hurting the team. Kahn was good at massaging the cap in ways that made sense to the fans, then he made a couple of good moves as GM but just as many head scratchers. He seems less involved in building a team than Colbert but its like the staff comes to him and says we need this guy and he makes it happen with no plan behind it.

 

I'd almost like to see them move Khan back to his old position and promote Weidl. Talent assessment has never been Khan's strong suit; he's a numbers guy.

 

Funny, I think Odell right now is running around with a Tin cup Begging for an NFL JOB.

That video of Odell on the plane getting removed by TSA/Police is crazy. Not sure what happens to an NFL player if they are on the No Fly List.

Buried somewhere on this site is a thread where I am stating that George Pickens will not be playing for the Steelers in 2025 without a new contract. In that same thread is you stating that you and Mike Tomlin both guarantee the DK and George will be playing for the Steelers in 2025.

I even posted a picture of all the Steelers WRs practicing, including DK, without George, and I am saying this is our 2025 WR room. You quickly claim that from Mike Tomlin's interview, or it could have been Khan's, both DK and Pickens will be playing for the Steelers in 2025.

Question: Why did the Steelers not draft a WR in 2025. Answer: Because they had both Pickens and DK on the roster when the draft took place in April.

I get it. But as a FF manager I'm one of of those wondering WTH Brown isn't getting it more.

 

I was just messing around I don't want OBJ on the team he's washed up.

 

I'm not completely done with him, maybe there is a plan, but this offseason would definitely be the one for it to show signs.
But I do agree with your assessment.
I don't think he's anywhere near good.... he's just average and maybe below average at times.

 

I don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but I've always assumed from the time the Khan/Weidl era began that Weidl handles personnel, draft board and Khan handles numbers, negotiations. The biggest indicator that Weidl has the biggest say in personnel is the newfound focus on building the line, which only began when Colbert left and Weidl arrived from the Eagles.

 

That's what my understanding has been as well. I just think identifying and developing talent is a bigger skill to have in a GM. Number guys are easier to find.

I'm not bashing Khan. I just worry someone's to give Weidl the chance to be their GM.

 

I agree, if it's just a job title. Before Weidl there was one personnel guy and one numbers guy. Now, there's one personnel guy and one numbers guy. We know that in front of the cameras it seems like we went from a personnel guy to a numbers guy at GM, but if inside the headquarters they divide the duties the right way, then there shouldn't be much difference other than who makes the announcements.

I 100% agree with Mike Tomlin here. The Steelers would have had one of the best WR rooms with both DK and George!!!
