I would think Crotch, slot guy which is where Breaston would be used.

It was between those two for me but I've just gotten the impression that for whatever reason they really like Cotch so I think he might be safe.

I like him too but would rather have Plax for the redzone.

I'd say that's the general consensus on him.

I sure wish they would spend the money on Caldwell instead of Breston.

I really have a hard time believing this. I'm not saying this wont happen, just saying hard for me to picture. I like Breaston but is he really going to add anything to what we have? I'm still holding out that Plax will come in and impress, however, I'm the same guy that was hanging on Sweed's jock.

looks like Plex days are numbered. I was hoping they would keep him as I still have his jersey hanging in my steelers office.

Given the current rookies we drafted and UDFAs, I think this is a pretty valid point. Surely there are other positions where we could use more experienced FAs, especially given we have Plax around (even though I'm not sold on him as being a consistent answer next season)?

I think Cotch is way better than Breaston, not counting Breston has a bum knee. I also don"t want Haley's has beens. Forget Breaston and sign Bradshaw!

    :this!:

i hope we don't lose a good young prospect to a 35 y.o. has been and a guy with an arthritic knee that nobody else wants. cotchery is the better receiver at this point and is not to old to re-sign next year if need be. cotchery isn't just a slot guy either. strange move if they do this.

the only reason they might do it though is to help mann learn the offense. we kept pope last year to help out. breaston could help out the young with the offense and help the new coach make the transition into it. plax would be the guy i cut loose. we have the 6-8 spaeth. the 6-4 moye. the 6-3 brown. 6-4 paulson. isn't cotchery 6-1? heath is 6-5. there are plenty of tall RZ weapons.

After 20+ years of coaching I'm pretty sure Mann will have no problems picking up the offense. After all it's not like Haley has reinvented the wheel. I would be very surprised if there's anything different other than verbiage. A slant is a slant is a slant no matter how many different names it's called.

the verbiage is what mann said he has to learn. it wasen't to mean help him coach technique to anyone. i'm sure pope wasen't kept last year to help with technique either. he knew the offense. so does breaston. it's in the wr room where he will help mann and the younger guys get up to speed quicker.

I think the Steelers are good at receiver after drafting 2 more Justin Brown won't play but Wheaton will we don't need Breaston now. Cotchery is good they don't give him that many opportunities. Burress would be a redzone threat that the team needs.

The first jersey I ever had was a plaxico jersey. I loved his ability and was happy to see him succeed in NY. His time has ended.

Breston is younger faster and knows the system. I'd love to have him. Hell he is from woodland hills if I remember correctly.

Either way keeping plax or signing Breaston I think is a bad idea. Let youth develop. If Ben is what he should be. He will make them better.

if we cut plax and sign breaston at vet min the cap is the same ?
i would look at oline where our left side is a total question mark , who play left guard ? foster is better at right maybe dd will switch , and we are in the hands of adams or gilbert at left tackle .ideally we should sign someone that gets cut in june that can play both spot . then there are a lot of udfa that have to be evaluate .

Before the draft I wouldn't have a problem with signing Breaston; but looking at the range of receivers we have to pick from now, I don't see the need. Ok, training camp could change all of that - it could turn out that Wheaton is fine against other rookies, but miserable agains pros, or the like - but I can't see it happening.

Oh, and I agree completely, Fe3CCity - it's time to admit that Plax's time is over.

woods,j.brown and wheaton should help our run game as blockers too. thats just another plus these young guys bring. i'd hate to lose any of them especially with heath out. i'm suprised the breaston signing has resurfaced. as far as redzone, those 2-3 inches shouldn't matter that much if ben puts the ball in the right spot at the right time. after all he is elite.

Well said, mac. After all, It didn't particularly help when we last had Spaeth here, and I seem to remember Plax by no means being a dead cert in the endzone when he was first around.
