dummy coaching, that is why. (MT and AS)

NO IDEA what he wanted to do their - you saw that AROD was agitated and dumbfounded by it all

MT is so NOT USED to playing with a lead that he had NO IDEA how to keep it

thank GOD Wilson can run 22 mph or we'd be sitting here 2-2........with a colossal choke discussion!

I don’t hesitate to call out bad coaching decisions when I see them, but I really believe that both the 4th and goal decision and the later 4th and 1 decision could have gone either way and been justifiable. Plenty of good reasons for and against either decision.

One thing on the 4th and goal decision: if we kick the FG and go up by 13, the Vikings need 2 TDs instead of a TD+FG. If they need and get the TD+FG, we’re headed to OT with a chance to win. If they need and get 2 TDs, there’s a good chance we lose in regulation.

I didn’t like the pass play call on 2nd & goal, nor did I like running on 4th & goal at the 4. I am guessing those play calls were Smith’s.

Hated the call. It’s the first time I have ever been angry after a win. I was all smiles until I saw them going for it, I was like no no no no this is going to bite them in the ass and then very quickly that’s what started to unfold.

Fortunately the defense made the plays in the end but I found it all so unnecessary. The momentum completely shifted after that. Just take the points and make them score 2 TDs against a defense that had been kicking their ass all day.

At the end of the day we don't know that conversation. MT could have been on the fence about what he wanted to do. Leaning toward the 3 but already had a short one blocked, so considering going for it and pinning them at their GL worst case. Spoke with his players and made the decision based on how they felt about it. That's not 'caving in'. That's situational football. Yes, I thought the smart play was to kick there as well. But the decision wasn't based at all on how I felt or on what I thought. If they make the TD it's a gutsy call. If they settle for the 3 OR go for it and don't make it, it's gonna get second guessed. I don't believe any of them ever wondered what we would think about which decision they made though.

What was our alignment? What was the defensive alignment? We know that close they were playing man. Did we have a strong side or did we line up balanced? I wish you guys talked more about football and less about how you feel after games, that's more the point of my previous post.
What did the Vikings take away? What were we able to exploit offensively? Did they adjust to anything? In what way?

Lots of discussion out there to get into. We're on our bye week. 2 weeks of 'what I would have done' is going to be pretty boring. That's my opinion. That's my feelings on it. That's what I'm second guessing on.

If it's true that ARod talked MT out of kicking and into going for it....i would guess it's every bit as likely ARod called the play after seeing the defense line up. But, I don't know for sure.

Ravens, Bilsls and Detroit lose always in January , and very early Feb, I guess you are correct coaching matters.

Kinda what I was thinking, but unlike most on here, I don't know what was really said. I just know he changed Tomlin's mind.

But that four yards per carry average wasn't in the shadow of the goal post.

That's what is faulty about analytics. You can say you should go for it on 4th down and two, but that doesn't take into account that the other team might have two pro bowlers on their defensive line against the best rush defense in the NFL or two 320-lb. All-Americans on college football's best defensive line or your offensive line just isn't that great in run blocking. It's an all encompassing analytic stat that doesn't take into account actual specifics at that moment.

It was still a two-score game with the field goal. It would have just made it a two-touchdown game. I just don't understand running the ball on that play.

Equally frustrating was the decision to punt on 4th and a foot late in the game. We gained 2 yards on a tush push that everyone in the stadium knew was coming. Yet we chickened out on 4th and one foot

An incomplete pass pins them deep, too. The only way the run works is if it gets them in the end zone, but the chances of that play getting them a score were very low.
