Mac their was no contact at all between the Steelers and Jones? If the Steelers were so in love with Jones, do you think there maybe some contact
between someone with the Steelers? I hope the kid does well, I still think that the Steelers could have landed a developmental QB later though. Just my opinion
I hope he becomes the next Joe Montana.

yes there was. fitchner was at his pro day and met with him. the kid was put through his workout of 70 throws in the deep and mid range and completed 66 of those. of the 4 incompletions only one was a bad throw.

More shoddy reporting, it was said that the first time the Steelers talked to Jones was to call him to say they selected him in the draft, that didn't make much sense to me.

If this true, I stand corrected. Funny how the PG could blow this one?

Just because we draft a QB to fill in for Ben when he gets dinged by either extending the play or by the O line breaking down, only means that the current backups were not effective anymore. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.Watch what you wish for!

As long as we have Ben, we're threat, have a shot.

4 years from now we'll see this same thread.

It's a business the team can't afford to keep paying guys like Smith, and Colon when they only play a few games a year and then get injured every year. You can't help the club if you're in the tub. If Ben is still playing at a high level then after this season they will probably try to work out a extension.

Of course ben's days are numbered. This organization is so cut throat lately it isn't even funny. Pay a bunch of lazy scab players & get rid of the work horses. Pretty sad in my opinion that some players want to retire a Steeler & the organization just won't let them.

Harrison could have re-signed with the Steelers and probably retired as one but chose to leave so he could make more money.

Free agency, players and teams have turned the NFL into a business and have just about eliminated loyalty on both sides. You can't just blame the teams.

Looking at Indy and their season without Manning I bet they wished they'd had found someone to push him. I'd rather take what happened in GB then what happened in Indy. Although, I must say Indy screwed the system well to get Luck. Here's hoping Jones is the QB of the future, just not the right now future, but maybe the 6 year mark.

Jones is a wasted pick. If Ben stays healthy, then he will never play. If Ben gets hurt, we will need a better QB than Jones. There is a reason he was available in the 4th round - he isn't starter material.

You think Jones will hang here 6 years for a chance to start? (I myself think we will need a new starter in 4.. If not sooner and it aint Jones)....Wasted pick!!

our long long time backup vets last year won 1 out of 3 games and we had to sign a 4th guy to get by with. hardly a wasted pick. a very much needed pick.

And why was Brady available in the 6th round? I hate to say stuff like that because people will jump from A-Z and say that I'm comparing Landry Jones to Brady. I'm not. But give the kid some credit. He's got some skills that will translate nicely to the NFL level. Let's see what we've got.

I hated using a 4th rounder on a QB, I said all the way leading up to the draft that I prefer that they don't take a QB at all but definitely not before the 6th. However, I think they chose a good one, he's definitely suitable for a back up roll and has tons of potential to be a good starter, he can make all the throws, just needs to make better decisions with the ball. He's a student of the game and a film room junkie, he'll learn a lot while he is here.

That's what I'm hearing about him and I think that's great. We've had this discussion before, but my biggest criticism of Ben is that he has relied on sheer physical prowess and determination to have success in the NFL and it's worked well for him up to this point. But I believe the second half of his career he needs to devote more time to film study and game prep. He's plenty smart enough but I just think he may be a little lazy and has always taken his physical superiority for granted. Maybe Landry Jones can have as much of an impact on Ben with regard to game study and preparation as Ben will have on him in showing him how to be a tough as nails competitor. I really like our QB situation as it stands now.

Could we at least wait until his first pre-season series to speculate on when his first start will be.

Who is the absolute odd man out as it stands right now? Batch and Lefty are still on the roster right? But so is Gradkowski so I'm curious which one is going? Or have they already decided and I just missed it somehow?

If they are, they won't be for long. Grad#2 Landry#3, they won't carry 4 QB's.

Well how do practice squads work? Are guys on the practice squad allowed on the sidelines ever during games? I never really thought about that before. Like if a team drafts a guy like Jones and knows that he's not gonna play at all couldn't they just put him on the practice squad and use actual roster spots for guys that could potentially play?

Batch and Lefty are unrestricted free agents and not on our roster. We have four qb's on the roster Ben, Gradkowski, Jones, and whoever the guy was they picked up a few months back.

Batch is an unsigned free agent. I think he is done.
