I'll take the counter view. There are very few truly elite kickers in the NFL. When you have one you hold onto him until hell freezes over.

I agree, but there are very few mediocre kickers in the NFL. They get fired very quickly. I believe one , or two has lost their jobs already this year, and there has only been one game played.

    OK I did
The top-ranked kickers in the NFL generally include Justin Tucker, Harrison Butker, Brandon Aubrey, and Chris Boswell

The Browns rookie kicker personally cost them the game. Missed an extra point and a chip shot FG that would have won the game. The Falcons kicker also sucked in a game they lost by 3. The kicker we had in pre-season Sauls should have a job pretty soon.

First chart, WC weekend vs PIT. Second chart, WK1 vs NYJ.

    Seeing a pattern?

there are PLENTY of mediocre kickers, when you compare to GREAT.

Boz and Tucker are the gold standard. (GREAT) 1/2 the kickers in the NFL are mediocre.....

that is what happens here too much - we (Steelers fans) have settled for redefining goals and standards. Mediocre Mike and Rooney have done that too us. you are mediocre if you are 1 of 14 teams making the playoffs each year and keep getting bumped in Rd. 1 - is that too hard to understand?

Teams like the 49ers,Browns and chargers in the past struggle to find good kicker and also good clutch kicker

    Don't take Boz as granted!

they get fired, and replaced by a has been

the Rats got rid of Tucker and may have lost Sun night due to an extra point missed.

he also shanked a kick off, giving Allen the ball at the 40, in the first half, leading to a score for BUFF

    mediocre, in week 1.

PLENTY of mediocrity, when compared to EXCELLENCE.

I have to look it up but I think I read the NFL is allowing for different balls for kickers. So far I’ve only seen 1 missed FG so far. There are probably other misses but I think overall the FG kicking will be better this year.

Nobody is taking Boz for granted. If You would like to go back, and look up when He got his last contract, and many on here were calling for him to lose his job........Look who was the person who stood up for him. This all started when someone said without the field goal we would have lost, and I responded that many teams would have lost every week without a field goal made, and now it has somehow been made into I don't like Boz. The mentality on here could be studied at length. LoL

1st round draft capital spent on defense:

    Cowher = 27% of picks
    Tomlin = 61%

Now which do you suppose should have the better defense?

I have never played a down of organized football so full disclosure in that its just a thought and not spit balling here.

My question is how difficult is it to change a scheme on the defensive side of things.
Do we just give all the credit to the Seahawks for exposing tendencies?
With the loss of key starters were we forced to go zone more than we wanted to last week and allowed the Seahawks to exploit known weaknesses shown on film. At least my observation.

Like what if the Steelers go in tomorrow and force Drake to beat them through his arm and we stack the line tomorrow and make that offense one dimensional. I have not seen this much with the Steelers but there appeared many times where the line literally gets pushed back a yard before the RB even begins his run.

Yes they will get burned but this isn't exactly the 94 Cowboys tomorrow.

Any all 22 people or youtubers seeing any different wrinkles this year?

Off topic but in another thread there is discussion about the lack of communication or discipline on defense. That remined me of the Patriots playoff game where the Pats took advantage of how the back four likes to come up and attack (Mitchell, etc). They through a flea flicker where there were two wide receivers wide open as can be.

The point is that we have seen this movie before with a new cast but hopefully more coachable.

Was Minkah that much of an X factor even though his tackling was under par lately?

    Thanks for reading

They have been blitzing more on defense this year in top 5 for blitz %, but you can't miss the tackle on the QB like Queen did on Darnold then they get a first down. And with 4 starters out they probably had to scale back some things.

Remember that game plane the Steelers had on both sides of the ball but especially offense against the colts and broncos in the SB? To confuse the Peyton and the colts was in my opinion the best game plan I have seen from the Steelers.
It was not on film study so that is why the argument to show Drake something completely different from film that would rattle him.

They coaches are afraid to do anything different. The players can not get the simple stuff they been working all training camp and you want to institute something within a week? Good luck.

Its very difficult to change scheme, you have months or years of running a scheme and drafting or signing players to fit that scheme and installing all of the personnel packages. Its really hard to do during the season, you really need to change the coordinator and have an offseason to install the new schem and figure out the personnel, then you meed time for the players to all learn the new scheme.

I hear you...I just think that this is a younger QB that could lose confidence if shown something different than game film.

I would think that the team defense is built to beat a Bills, Chiefs, Ravens so changing something so radically would be a square peg round hole type thing with respect to personnel on D.

The whole league knows what we do on defense inside and out, but we're going to need a complete change of leadership before that sinks in it seems.
