Sorry, Blast, I just can`t resist...
    REALLY?!?!
How long did it take for Arians to (ahem, cough ,cough) "retire", and become a "head coach". He wasn`t really hired to be a HC, in INDY, that was just kinda by default, and AZ.. Well, we all know their history with our cast-offs...:roflmao:

Now THAT, is a good question.
I would have to assume it depends on what Ben does in the next few years, and just how rich he wants to become, if he brings us a couple more rings along the way.
Yeah, I know he ain`t the only player on the field, but qb`s are at a premium, right now.
It would probably also depend on if the Rooney`s have a decent "plan B", on the bench, and just how much longer they believe Ben can play at a high level after he is past 35 yrs of age.:hmmm:

lol, I know what you are saying but TH was a HC already they tend to get another crack at HC more then others. That's if he does good, if he does as bad as BA does (SB) I can live with it if he has to stick around :lolol:

This guy might not be a #1 elite pick, but what is wrong with it? If he will fit in Haley's system (ie the Rooney's system) maybe Ben will consider it too (and I don't think Haley is going anywhere anytime soon). Landry may not be the "savior in waiting" but he addresses a huge need at this position. Aaron Rodgers waited 3 years before starting - agree Landry not Aaron Rodgers - TODAY, but who here remembers a QB from the Patriots named Drew Bledsoe and the name of his backup quarterback? What happened there? How long did it take for to Ben get to start? Give the Steeler's management credit for addressing this area that we as fans have been concerned with for several years. Give the kid and the management a chance. Let's all relax and enjoy the spring and summer with our families. We can all start stressing again on Setember 8. Life is too short.

I literally laughed out loud a little at this...not sure why but it made me laugh...

As a side note...for those asking about Ben and another contract. A lot of people speculate theres a chance that he gets extended next off season by a few years (supposedly will help the cap and such too). So who knows...

I don't really see Ben asking for that much. Don't get me wrong he will want paid but not 30 a year. Ben has said from day one he wants to retire a steeler like elway a bronco. We will find out this off season which I'm 95% sure will happen.

I think what consitutes "not asking for that much" is very different relative to where you're asking from - a vet minimum notasking for much is asking for another vet minimum. A $100m contracted player asking for not that much may still have a fairly hefty contract in mind.

I had honestly never considered Be not having his contract renewed, though. Food for thought.

He impressed me with his smarts and composure in that clip.
Seems to be a good pick. I think he's at least a quality back up, potentially a starter someday. I see nothing wrong with investing a 4th on him this year. Ben is entering his 10th year already. The time is right to start to think about life after Ben.

Indeed, you're not alone. I have often tried to preface my concerns with a "it wouldn't surprise me if..." but I still get blasted anyway. LOL

I'll say this much: whoever has the #1 pick next year (Oakland? Buffalo? Jets?) is going to have a crack at Johnny Manziel (assuming he declares early), and he is going to be a stud.

In 3-4 seasons, jones just might be starting the way Ben has been getting hurt, how many posts on this board has there been before this draft screaming for us to draft a QB and start grooming him, Jones is a cerebral QB who can learn fast, and besides Jones wife is a very good friend of Bens wife, since they played basketball together at Oklahoma: So he and Ben are already homeys....

What I don't like about Jones he seems to be a QB who doesn't handle the pass rush well not much athleticism to move around in the pocket either.

I don't like the idea of him having happy feet in the pocket but it was time to put some youth in the system at backup. Lefty doesn't have it and Batch isn't getting anything but older. I'd like to see Charlie hang on as a coach.

The same thing can be said about nearly 100% of the OCs in the NFL. Way to go out on a limb with that prediction, BF, lol.;)

BINGO! I was hoping we'd draft a young guy with some good skill and, most importantly, the kinds of cerebral qualities that can propel him to the next level as a quarterback. Jones has a reputation for film study and game prep and Tomlin referred to him as a "football junkie". Hope some of that rubs off on Ben.

Tell that to BA :lolol: I know you get your hackles up whenever any one messes with your boy but face it, ex HC's get thrown back into the pool faster then others, you should know that.

Nice article and reinforces my belief that this was a VERY GOOD pick for the Steelers. Jones has serious skills but has a few flaws that are correctable. He's in a perfect situation in not having to play right away. He's got some work to do, but if he develops the way I think he can we may be looking at the heir apparent to Big Ben.

People want to make Landry Jones out to be something he isn't. Landry is a guy who can be a quality backup for this team for the next 10 years, maybe starting the last 5 or so, but if Ben gets hurt I think we will be happy we have him.

I personally do not like where he was picked, I thought we would take
a QB, but much later in the draft. Is Ben's time up in three years? I think
so, maybe this is why the early pick, we better hope that Landry plays like
he did his freshman and sophmore years if not, I don't like the pick.
Oh hell I don't like pick, mobility scares me, happy feet scare me, able to read defenses
    scares me.

I don't love or hate this pick. However, I can't stand the thought of either Batch or Leftwich playing another down for us.

[ A rare emergence from my lurker cave ]

Another possibility to consider.... while they figure out whether LJ has any long-term value to the team... he keeps *Grad* sharp... why shouldn't there be competition for the #2 spot as well? Don't want a career backup to come in and be lazy about his role. I really don't have the info to compare MadCowski to Jones but it's gotta be better having a hungry young kid breathing down the neck of your relief QB than Batch or Lefty.

He's going to leapfrog Gradkowski on the depth chart in no time.
