I dunno what era you and him grew up in but I do know for a fact that the 2000s was still largely a Defensively Dominated game. Post 2011 CBA?! Offensive Driven League.

 

Pending on the results of tonight, we might be the worst Defense in all of Football.


For that matter, until I see otherwise, I expect this to continue in the Steelers House of Horrors in New England next week. Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are no longer Patriots but that didn't stop Belichick from smashing Pittsburgh back in 2022. That said, Belichick isn't there either; Mike Vrabel now is.


We have had success against Vrabel before as a Head Coach. Let us see if that trend continues even if he is a New England one. I just don't believe it will. I hope I am wrong!!

Geno Smith had success against that Patriots secondary in the season opener, but it won't mean anything if the pass protection can't holdup.

 

Yet another beef after gm2; why did the Steelers decide to cut the number of snaps under center after seeing success in gm1 (from 15 to 10, respectively)? Did Smith decide it wasn't worth his QB getting beat up over it?

You would think it could or should be. But Benton just seems to struggle with consistency in his fundamentals snap to snap.

There are HCs and coordinators that use every tool available to them to innovate and tease out trends and tendencies. And with advanced analytics it becomes an even simpler task to scheme against mediocre coaches that use their "gut" and fall back on doing the same thing over and over.

 

Well, the Steelers are top 5 in blitz percentage so far this season that has to be up from last year.

 

Game not available in my area. The football gods have decided I've seen enough. And no way will I pay to watch this tragedy.

Kaboly: Arrogance. At least with this unit. He really believes in his Tomlinism of “nameless gray faces.” With this defense, it comes across as if he truly believes that if they play their scheme that they have so much talent that it doesn’t matter what the other team does. We’ve seen that’s not the case. Let’s see if that changes.
