If they are terrible the trade deadline they should trade the high priced vets and load up on draft picks. I’m talking Watt, Ramsey and Metcalf. Fire Tomlin and let Smith be the interim HC. It would never happen but it would be the best thing going into next season.

Who says either of those guys are anything special. There isn’t enough to go on for either one really. There are countless examples of players having previous success and then coming here and not doing so well under MEYER.

Yeah, he was. I said '17 because that was Haley's last year. There was enough talent on Defense to be good no matter what Tomlin/Butler wanted to do.

    2008.

Turns out, they were just that talented. Barry Switzer could have coached them.

He should have been let go after the Jaguars playoff loss. It was clear to me after that game we would never win another big game with that man in charge.

i was SO HOPEFUL that one of the past 2 - 3 offseasons, that the rumors were TRUE and that he would have been gone.

it is hard to watch this lost decade of Steelers football.

But Rooney is the other half of this problem - SELL THE TEAM please!

Countless? I have the count at two. Seamalo and Daniels. What other outside FAs have regressed from the heights of their previous success?

I am no fan of Meyer. If I was running this railroad, I would've fired quite some time ago. He has never been associated with a good offense outside of one or two Rivers and Tomlinson led years.

But it isn't like we have this overwhelming evidence that Meyer is just destroying guys careers. Brod Jones is struggling as a pro with the same issues he had in college. It might just be a between the ears problem for him. The other tackle is in his rookie year because of injury and is getting beat by the speed and power of NFL players instead of PAC 10 dudes. The interior is playing fairly decent or at least well enough if the two tackles were not turnstiles.

If Meyer destroys all he touches....how is Frazier good? How is McCormick able to go from a lower tier of college ball to the pros fairly seamlessly? Those guys just unicorns?

Il honestly not sure how good either guy is. Frazier had a good rookie year but I feel he hasn’t been as good so far albeit 2 games. McCormick seems serviceable at best.

Fields had a great week 1 and a poor week 2.....We will see what is next for the rest of the season but if he look trash like he was vs Bills,I will be wrong like crazy and his days as starter will be over

But this thread has nothing to do with Fields

OK. But now we are changing the discussion.

I never claimed the Steelers OL was anything but terrible.

Many posters here seem to be arguing that the OL would be really good if not for Meyer mucking it up. What is that based on? Exactly ONE player on the Steelers entire roster has a track record of NFL success as an OL. One. That's it. Two if you want to count Andrus Peat.

The question is whether or not the Steelers would have a high performing OL with no Pat Meyer. I do not think they would. The two OTs are just not good enough. One might be good enough at the end of the season. One looks like a lost cause.

Dotson wasn’t meh to below average here. He went to the Rams and became a Pro Bowler. The interior Oline is not playing well so far this year including McCormick and Frazier. The
Oline under Meyer as a whole has not developed under Meyer during his whole tenure here. When we got a new OC we should have gotten a new oline coach but we didn’t now here we are.

While many of the complaints about our coaching are a bit off the wall, it takes true blind faith to not recognize that coaching has had a significant role in the team’s failures to take the nest step over the past decade. There have been good and bad performances throughout, but the end result is always just good enough to be better than the middle of the pack, but not good enough to seriously contend for anything other than a quick exit from the postseason where the real teams show their mettle. With all of the changes, there has been one constant leader at the helm for all of those “meh” outcomes.

It’s an achievement to go so long without a losing season, but the achievement seems a bit dull and tarnished to me when avoiding a losing season is the best achievement that this franchise can claim for the past decade+

Tomlin is a terrible coach period. He is destroying a great franchise. Sadly he isn’t doing it so fast that he gets fired. It’s like watching your hair grow it’s hard to see but it is happening. By the way we have played the Browns 3 times in the last game of the season. Saved Tomlin from a losing season 3 times because you guessed it the Browns didn’t care. Let’s look at how this season will go as a prime example. We will without a doubt lose to the Ravens twice, lions, Bills, Packers, Colts, Chargers (that’s 7 losses plus Seattle=8). At best he will be 9-8. Now I should be able to say 7-10 but in pure Tomlin style Burrow is out for 3 months. The 7 future losses are going to be absolute beat downs double digit losses. Sorry I don’t consider Tomlin a good coach if and when we beat the Browns, Dolphins and Bears. Tomlin can beat teams when the other coach is about to be fired and the opposing players won’t listen to the coach. Cam and Watt plus other Steeler veterans have nothing but great things to say about Tomlin because Tomlin over pays them. Why would you bad mouth a guy that is letting you slide and expects the bare minimum (Beat the terrible Browns).

Poor , Poor....hell a HS player could have looked that good. 3-11 for 27 yards, and a fumble is way, way, way worse than poor. LoL Also You won't respond on any of the Fields threads you made, and stoked up all week so.......LoL
