I think this guy played both offense and defense at Illinois

Possible but I'm not so sure Shamarko would have made it past another 4 teams.

    Terry Hawthorne, CB, Illinois
    Height: 6-0. Weight: 195.
    40 Time: 4.44.
    Projected Round (2013): 4-5.
4/24/13: Hawthorne was one of the best players on the field at the East-West Shrine. He did very well in man coverage and was physical. Hawthorne also showed more ball skills than previously thought. The strong week should help him on draft day.

Hawthorne followed that up with a good Combine and ran faster than expected. He is a sleeper corner who could turn into a steal.

    Hmmm

Have to look into it a little. This is the blurb from NFL.com

Four-year starter, but his durability is a red flag. Versatile athleticism with NFL aggressiveness and timing. Rangy and confident.
Good height and frame for the position. Excellent athlete with more than enough speed. Fluid footwork and smooth hip action to quickly change directions. Nice job reading and reacting in a flash.

Here are his weaknesses according to an article on BR

    Weaknesses
The biggest concern revolving around Hawthorne is his history with injuries. He missed chunks of games in both 2010 and 2012 with a foot injury and a concussion.
Hawthorne relies on his physicality too often in both the pass and run game. He'll lunge and miss opponents when trying to make tackles. There are times when Hawthorne will also get too physical with receivers down the field.
His ball skills also leave much to be desired. Hawthorne struggles to finish interceptions and will often drop passes that hit his hands.

Colbert isn't dumb at all. If Colbert traded up to get a guy, he would have other players he could draft if his original player was snatched away. He's not going to have only one player in sight and forget about the rest of his board. What you're describing didn't happen. If there was a delay in the pick it's probably because the Steelers were fielding phone calls.

Besides, this is a moot argument as the Steelers took him with their original pick

    A little more on Hawthorne

[h=3]Weaknesses[/h]While he has good instincts and often knows when and where the ball is going to be, he's a body-catcher rather than hands. This leads to a share of missed interceptions. While he's a willing tackler he could use work on his tackling form as he lowers his head too often, which could lead to injury to himself and penalties in the NFL.
[h=3]Anything Else?[/h]His numbers in 2010 and 2012 are affected by injuries, as he missed four games in 2010 with a broken foot and missed a parts of the Wisconsin game and the game after that with a concussion. Overall when he's healthy and on the field he's productive, and shouldn't be considered an injury risk. Can also contribute on special teams, though is better suited for kick returns. Not a true game-breaker on returns, but solid and consistent.
[h=3]Summary[/h]He did not live up to expectations in 2012 after a strong junior season, but the same can be said of the Illinois defense as a whole. As far as physical gifts and potential are concerned, Hawthorne may have the greatest upside of any Illinois player in this draft, as he has the ability to be a starter in the NFL, and possibly a very good one at that.

To those asking about Swope's medical, he's had many concussions. If he's there next round, pull the trigger.

by the way, not that NFL grades matter much, but QB Zac Dysert is the best player available by grade (83.5)

interestingly, he played for Miami OH

Just from a lay persons prespective we are drafting the positions of need and that is good. If we can get three solid starters out of this bunch then I think it will be a good draft. If we get a probowler or all pro then this will be a great draft! Heres to hoping some of these pics hit!!!

Okay. I'm off suicide watch now. I'm okay with the Landry Jones pick but I think Bray had more "franchise" potential if he matures a little. Jones can be a serviceable backup though and, who knows, may develop into a solid starter. We'll see what kind of heart and desire he has when he gets here. I actually picked Landry Jones in my "Keeping up with the Jones" mock draft. Does that count?:lolol:

Bell will pay immediate dividends as will Wheaton, just to a lesser extent. We won't see a lot out of Jones, Thomas, Landry, or Hawthorne for a year or two.
