Both of these guys make me nervous at tackle in pass blocking. This is the main reason we have to have short drops and short quick throws, ie Haley's type of offense as much as I hate that because I still think we are not disiplined enough to go down the field in long drives with many short plays because of penalties and stupid mistakes that we make along the way.

I'm not sure they do disagree. "Viable" and "Tackle-like" are not great endorsements. Sounds more like "okie dokie".

maybe they could ask foster and DD. i'll bet they have a difference of opinion of which side gilbert would be better at. DD: nope he's definately a better LT. Foster: nope he's a better RT.:lolol:

Starks is the best left tackle on our team right now. Regardless of potential, upside or wishful thinking. Before we let him walk away, we better make sure Gilbert and Adams can handle it or Ben will have a long season.

Starks is already on their speed dial. Let's see if they punch it this year.

Folks as long as #7 is the QB Max Starks is always on their speed dial.
Like we had this big long discussion a few weeks ago about Haley/BA people were saying
let Ben be Ben, well here you go when Ben sees that he has nobody he can trust on his blind side
and you have Silverback ready to end your career.Ben TRUSTS Max,its really that simple.
and being possibly the most egotistical, arrogant steeler in years and when he starts *****ing
the folks upstairs LISTEN. #7 has earned his opinion and when he wants somebody brought in
    believe me they will listen.

True he isn't on the team. But if Starks is awful and we called him back twice then what does that say about our tackles. If we call him again this year then Gilbert and Adams are worst than awful.

I'm not sold on Gilbert... but I think Adams (at worst) will be a very good right tackle. He already mauls people in the run game. I saw some crazy numbers that we ran for like 4 more ypc with him in the lineup or something like that. If he gets his technique and footwork worked out, he could be a stud on the left side.

players evolve. they don't continue to play at a rookie level their whole career. if thats the case we better change some coaches.

gilbert and foster need to lose some weight for starters. that has been said several times. if not they will hinder other guys around thems game.

bicknell , i hope makes a difference. he seems to know what he wants in players to match them up. we have had a line full of mismatched players to each other and for the schemes they are trying to run. i believe we will have 5 guys matched up that are mobile enough to make the offense work as it should.

we also brought in some good UDFA linemen for depth. they will have their struggles at times until they get gelled together but i do like what i'm hearing about them working out together and pouncey taking charge. thats a start in the right direction. not something max was a big proponant of. no more guts hanging, slow footed, sloth like linemen please. i think we are going to like what this unit fields this year.

Mac I like your thinking and optimism, Here is hoping some UDFA lineman pan out, There are only 4 Steeler OL I like on the team now.
I think competition is great for this group, also getting to the weight room and start looking like athletes would be another.

Left tackle is the obvious worry spot for the Steelers because it may be that neither player can man that spot and the entire offense, which already struggles to score, will be destroyed. I don't think Starks is the answer but he may be the best they can acquire. They don't seem to have a viable alternative if Gilbert fails and/or injures fellow linemates by getting blown up and falling on them...we shall see.

Starks is not the worst...he is not the best. He is definitely in the very middle and he has bailed this team out for 2 years now. At this point I wouldn't mind him being a back up swing tackle if they can find a roster spot for him, and he is willing to come back in that role.

I posted before, but I really hope they move Adams to LT and keep gilbert at RT. Adams is obviously the better athlete of the two. Adams struggled in pass protection last year a little, but I think that was just rookie mistakes.

The problem is proving they can't handle it means Ben probably gets hurt---again, or at he least we have another poor season with no playoffs. Starks wants to be a starter and quite frankly has proven he is an NFL caliber LT. We can't afford him right now but if anyone noticed when the Steelers gave out Jersey Numbers they did not give his old number out.... wonder why?

The Steelers want Adams and Gibert to become the Starters, that's why they were drafted, but like many of us they aren't locked into believing these guys can most definately handled the jobs. They'll let camp and pre-season sort it all out.

I think Max proved he should be our LT next couple years and that adams/gilbert should compete with beechum on the right side and swing tackle.
