I was just about to post the same thing.

We have to watch preseason for what it is - an extended practice session.

Between 2019 and 2023 Steelers won all but two of their preseason games.

It had absolutely no reflection on the regular season.

Preseason is an extended practice session.

This is the last year of Austin's contract. Could be a changing of the guard next season. Won't matter though cause Tomlin has his oversized thumb on the defense.

Watch #66 in Rudolph's TD (@3:52). This is fine stuff by a second year player. He's got one arm helping out Frazier on a block but turns his head to see if TF needs some help.

Another game to get a look at players trying to make the roster and some that are supposed to be on the roster like Roman Wilson.
There's not much else to read from that game.

Kaleb Johnson has a long way to go on his instincts in the blocking game. I also thought that while his vision seemed slightly better, I am a little concerned as I thought he would break a run or two - the 14-yd run was ok.. I liked the catch. I'm not seeing him much more than a fringe RB2 or 3 as of this moment.

Skylar in a real competition, could give Mason a run for the dough. Given the way this organization operates, I'm not sure how this will play out. I think Mason got the better on this one with that 63 yard drive. Logan Woodside is just a name. All 3 QB's threw an interception, that isn't great. I did not like the 2 minute before the half sequence.

As far as the race to fill the biggest hole, #2 WR, Austin is penciled in as the returning vet but who know what happens there... Wilson is looking like a 1st year player and if I am optimistic, showing a flash here and there.

I just kind of put this game as just an evaluation of the depth players and put the spotlight on some that I want to see if anything is there.

Game three, I expect to see some starters kick off some rust for maybe a series or two and maybe a couple of game 1 and 2 players sprinkled in to see if they fit.. I don't really expect to see Rogers.

Overall, a few crappy penalties (I heard Warren's name more than I like but he won't be here long) some miscues, but nothing really fugly, and that's about all you can hope for given the players that played.

I do think that when cuts happen, the Steelers will probably pick 1 or 2 up.

One game doesn't get it. How many games have You watched of him getting stopped in the backfield , over, and over again , and then bust a 75 yard one off. No freaking way you are making me believe if You took that 75 yard one away, and then only one of his negative 4 yards away He would be looked at as a HOFer.
I just did it on one game , and he went from a 8.3 yard average to a 3.8 yard average. Big big difference.

I guess You aren't factoring in the pass rush starters that aren't playing either???

People keep saying this, but then can't explain why the plays called, and the scheme has changed every time we get a new DC. So in all realty, they are just saying it.
Of course all HCs have input in with the OCs, and DCs, but if it was all Tomlin. The defense, calls, and scheme wouldn't change everytime we got a different DC, and if people don't notice this, well I rest my case.

Finally watched the game. Hardly any starters played. O line sucked while Rudolph was in which is not surprising. Pierre was the most senior DB playing. Roman Wilson looks legit. Other than that...:sleepy:

Kaleb Johnson looks legit. A lot of his troubles are because of the crappy O line performance. Put KJ behind Eagles O line....he would be the second coming of Terrell Davis.

    5. Roman. some here were calling him trash, a Khan failure, whatever other crap they were saying. SHUT UP and WATCH. He is very talented. And Scotty can play too. Aaron can do something with them. the biggest issue will be the OLINE and moving the chains.....

Yeah, it's gonna be more of the same. Too many 3 and outs.... and the overrated defense gets gassed, gives up TDs, etc. Steelers defense is a good defense, but it's not elite and nowhere near elite. It hasn't been elite in 15 years.

Because you brought it up talking about one game, and if You were to get a real average of the season, you know by going by what You brought up, you would have to do each individual game to find the actual average for each season. You know this, or am I moving too fast?? LoL. Therefore each season You did this with would be different than what you are trying to work with to start.
I know exactly how what You said works, some of us paid attention in school. This is why I said what you proposed wouldn't work that way for stats for certain players. Are you understanding it?
Remember it was your Idea to work this into the conversation, not mine. I said it's a bad Idea .

    So Troy Fautanu sucks?!

I'd recommend watching his snaps individually.

Looks to me like the entire O line is sub par as a unit. Just because Frazier and Fautanu play well and Jones has a good block now and then, doesn't mean the O line is gonna hold up vs better teams. Looks to be the same to me as the past 4 years. I don't see much improvement. I hope I'm wrong.

When he hires an established DC I’ll believe he isn’t heavily involved with the defense. They haven’t had one since LeBeau which Tomlin had to agree to keep in order to be HC.
