In Rounds 2 and 3 is this done with any kind of frequency? Or do you think teams will only want picks in this year's draft since the talent in the mid rounds is so deep? I am wondering what we'd have to do to get an EXTRA pick tonight, not just move up.

I ask because I was just reminded that we'll have a ton of comp picks next year (Wallace, Lewis, Mendenhall) which could all end up being 3rd rounders. So could we give up a 5th rounder this year and a 3rd next year (our original 3rd, i know the comp picks can't be traded) to move into one of these rounds tonight and come away with 4 guys in the first 3 rounds?

Just not sure on the value of future picks. Thanks!

Yeah, we can definitely do that. Trade our next years "real" 3rd to move up this year. I think you actually might see that.

But do potential trade partners value those picks the same they would view them if they were current year picks? For example, would trading our 3rd rounder next year be the equivalent of giving up like a 4th or 5th rounder this year?

That would change club to club. I'm not sure if there's an actually chart for something like that if you're talking about what the actual "value" of the pick would be.

Yeah, it certainly varies club to club, and I think that GMs who are in less stable situations will tend to value future picks less because - let's face it - if you need to have a good season right now to keep your job, a future pick means jack to you.

The Pats ended up with the best pick trade of the day 1 draft: They traded out of 29 for the Vikings 2-3-4-7 picks in this draft, and the vikes traded all those picks to get Cordarrelle Patterson WR Tennessee, I didnt see the value in that trade for the Vikes, but it was a bonanza for Belichick....

Bellechick must have pictures of Rick Spielman doing unspeakable things to a monkey. There's no other logical explanation for such a one side deal.

Some teams value future year picks as a round below the pick...using the 2nd round for example...a number of teams have traded future years 1st rounders for a 2nd. Rounds 3 and later might be different...but I've seen this many times before giving up a higher pick in the future to move up now. Some teams might accept a 3rd to move up and take their 3rd (obviously plus another lower pick or 2) but who knows. The other thing I've always wondered is there a cap on how many years in the future you can trade...you generally dont see many picks traded beyond the next year (I've seen some 2 yrs down the line in trades involving players though)...but still...can a team trade a 2017 pick now? I would assume so...you just don't see it.

Well if you subscribe to the idea that the value chart is an accurate representation of a picks value, then the trade actually gives the Vikings better value. I know that people value depth in this draft, but if Patterson is a player the Vikings wanted (clearly), then I don't see what the big deal is...

NE sorta robbed old Minny, sorta of like the Bengals
did to the Raiders for the piece of **** Carson Palmer a couple years back.
God help old Minny's GM he is going to need it after this debacle.
