Not a bad pick on paper.

Is there some question how he'll pan out? Sure. What draft pick in history was question free? I like the kid and hope he continues (or arguably resurrects) our dominating LB history.

the good is that he had 14 1/2 sacks last year and he also played in a 3-4 system. The last 2 years he has 28 sacks. I don't see this as a bad thing. Yes I wanted a WR. Maybe we can pick up Hunter from UT in the second round. He might be better than Patterson. After Hunter I would say we need RB in round 3.

The steelers did exactly what they said they were going to do. They went with the best player available at #17. With so many needs on D and O, its all we could do. Whether Jarvis Jones really was the BPA at #17 will only be determined from his play down the road. But Cooper, Warmack, Vaccaro, were all gone before 17...Did we really need a guard, No...But if Cooper was there and he was rated higher on our board than Jones, I believe we would have taken him.. Now we have Worilds and Woodley, did we need an OLB? Yes we need depth as well as a pass rusher but we also are unsure of how Worilds will pan out as an everyday starter. But we all have someone we wanted them to pick, but all we can do as fans is trust an organization that has done this more times right then they have wrong.

Love this pick. He might be the the best "football player" in the draft...

Agreed! Jones.. a great fit to Pittsburgh his health remains an issue with me though his last 2 seasons was clean the true test will begin with the NFL. Lol when watching JJ he reminds of two players Troy and the silverback many similarities. I believe he takes the field sooner than later this season. Welcome to the Burgh!

I'm not sure how to think anymore, I was hoping for Floyd or Williams as I think the Dline is the big problem for not getting to the QB. I know there is work needed with the O, no doubt about it but during the first half of the season it was the D that was stinking up the field. As of right now teams can still throw on us as well as run, I think we got a one dimensional player and I hope I'm wrong.

The Steelers said they took Jones because of the drop off in pass rushers after him is too great, 28 sacks the last 2 seasons in the best conference in CFB.

If Arthur Brown is still available when we pick in the 2nd, don't be surprised if we take him. He is going to be a stud IMO. And quite honestly, I think we may not be able to pass him up.

    Mel Kiper - "Great pick!"
    Todd McShay - "Great pick!"
    Mike Mayock - "Great pick!"
Virtually all other "draft experts" - "Great pick!"
    (paraphrased, of course)

Consensus on TSF Message Board - "This pick sucks!"

LOL! This cracks me up. Jones, as I pointed out in my original post, was the NUMBER ONE PLAYER ON MEL KIPER'S BIG BOARD. When? Immediately after the season ended when all they had to evaluate players on was their GAME TAPE! This was before the underwear olympics and field day when they did the three-legged race, sack race and wheelbarrow race and then was served ice cream!

This guy plays BIG in BIG games! He plays tough against tough competition. He's the kind of guy I want leading the charge against the Ravens and Patriots of the league. He's the guy I want chasing quarterbacks and running backs since he had a knack for DROPPING THEM BEHIND THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE IN COLLEGE!! Only time will tell whether or not Jones turns out to be as great as some of us believe and as sucky as others believe, but I'm banking on the former. He plays football hard, fast and furious. He's nasty ON THE FIELD and he's a high character guy OFF THE FIELD. What do you guys want???

Suppose you have to trust the medical staff and the fact he's completed 2 years in the toughest Conference in college football on that.

The way I see it is we needed help in a lot of different places and OLB was one of those places. When our spot came up we had a gift sitting there at 17 with a top quality OLB. At the time there wasn't anybody of his quality at any of the other positions of need. And even with Harrison and Woodley last year play our OLB play was less than stellar. This gives us another young very talented guy at that position. (Yeah I know he's 24 but he's replacing a guy that's 34 so he's young haha). Now we still need help pretty much everywhere on O and at safety. Unfortunately we just have a lot of holes on this team right now.

I wasnt on here last night during the draft, but I am STUNNED about the reaction on here about the Jarvis Jones pick??? He was projected to go top 5 before he had a slow run at the combine (and a medical condition that was cleared TWICE) and we got him at #17! I am thrilled with this pick and just DO NOT get the negativity on here

I'm 50/50 on the pick. I think with his pedigree he won't be a complete bust, but I just wonder how high his upside is?

On the plus side, he is a very instinctive player and he does have serious college production. Some negatives, not overly quick, not strong against the run, not good dropping back in coverage. I can't see how he could get compared to Von Miller. He is nowhere near as strong or quick.

I just get the feeling he will good, but not a star: See Clark Haggans. I am rooting for him to prove me wrong though.

    :this!:

My only reservation is that Jones seemed to disappear (much like Te'o) against Alabama.

no rb's were drafted in the 1st round. that tells me there werent any worth a 1st round pick.

According to Colbert, none of the Steelers picks in the first three rounds will have much impact at all THIS year! That makes me feel real good! I guarantee that the TE the Bengals took in round one from Norte Dame will have a big impact THIS year and probably will catch a TD or two against us!

One of the reasons took Jones at 17 was to try and fill the void left by Harrison, we'll see if it works. Another key reason, and this is key...he supposedly has an outstanding character and after Raines and T'amu or whatever his name is, they are being really, really being careful with not only talent observations, but character observations as well. That was words right from Colbert and Tomlin's mouths!

Come on people. Colbert says before the draft that there are 6-8 guys they have identified as "special" in this draft, but there are sure whoever they get there would be a good player. Guess what, we draft at #17 AND get one of those 6-8 and yet we come in here and complain. I predict by game 2 of the preseason you guys are all over this guy as if he is the best player we ever drafted. He will contribute Day 1. Start? No, but he will contribute. This team doesn't miss many first round picks, this one they aren't missing with.

He plays this year, everyone will be surprised with the motor this guy has, great pick on D. On O I think we should have went with the tight End from ND.
