I dunno, I kinda think wokeness is in retreat and it's more likely - at least in the short term - that the NFL will choose to stake out a different, perhaps more traditional direction. But, maybe I'm just being a bit too naively optimistic.

Judging by the AI made reels across FB and TicToc, it seems like we're on the cusp of a new era of shock/roasting comedy. Unsure if this trend will creep into the sitcom realm again, but if so, that's a sign that wokeness is fading out.

I think we both can agree the game is evolving for sure for a litany of reasons. It will be interesting to see how technology impacts the game and the viewing experience. People are going to want a more intuitive and personal experience in the future.

Exactly you proved my point with the last sentence. When was the last time it was a marquee sporting event?

All the time. Just because you don't know it, or haven't heard of it, doesn't exclude it. The problem is most ......so called boxing fans.....were never boxing fans , they were fans of a couple of boxers. Hell most of the people will say.....I stopped watching after Tyson, when in all reality they only watched Tyson, and most only a few matches, but you , or those people aren't the world. I couldn't name a soccer player to save my life, and I never watch, does that mean that soccer is dead, and nobody watches it??? No. It means I don't watch it. Just like you don't watch boxing.

I used to watch boxing but that was 50 years ago

I didn’t intentionally quit watching so somehow it disappeared from my field of view

Quite frankly until this conversation came up I was under the assumption that other than maybe local youth rinks it had disappeared

You caused me to Google it in pittsburgh and although it’s mostly small local gyms in February there was actually a pretty good sized event in a fairly large facility

I’m going to pay attention and see if anything shows up

Mrs jeh would have no interest but I could talk my cronies into it

    How is lunch

I watch it all the time, and I go to local events also. ESPN shows it quite often, and it always full. I used to post events of it showing in the water cooler section of this board, but not many paid attention, but I don't pay attention when people post soccer stuff either......so
It same as always. Scarf down some food , and get on here. LoL

You are correct. I don’t watch it. I lost interest in it over the UFC. I haven’t been into it since Tyson. I am definitely a casual fan at best. But that’s my point it doesn’t seem to be mainstream anymore like it used to be back during Tysons prime. Back then you had a litany of Heavyweights that everyone seemingly knew about. I couldn’t name one Heavy Weight today nor could a lot of people who enjoyed watching it back during the Tyson days. That’s how you know it’s lost its popularity with the mainstream. People like you enjoy it for the sport itself. You’re obviously not a casual fan of it.

It certainly isn’t it like it used to be. Talking about crowds being full heck even arm wrestling and face slapping events are full that doesn’t mean they are mainstream. Who is the Heavy Weight Champion of the World by the way?

1st. I will always defend Boxing the sweet science. I had my 1st match at 7 years old.
    2. Usyk hold 4 belts of the Heavy Weight.
    3. I can tell You don't watch because You would know You are wrong.
    4. Arm wrestling, and slapping events don't gain over 100 million dollars in Pay Per View alone , and that's not counting the price of seating, and the price of reshowing on ESPN, Showtime, and so on.
    5. There is more to Boxing than the Heavy Weight division, and alway has been.
    6. I Loved watching a old worn out Mayweather make a UFC fighter that was in his prime look like a fool in the Boxing ring.

I went to a local boxing card in May and it was well attended. There was a 6'3" middle weight from Pittsburgh that looked fantastic. I see a bright future for him.

I openly admit I am a casual fan at best. That was my whole point true boxing fans like yourself love it for the art of the sport. Cavalier fans are drawn to big events. During its peak of popularity in the Tyson days there seemed to be alot more marquee events as compared to now.

Growing up, early on for me it was all about Ali. I wasn't exactly a fan of the sport but it was on tv just about every weekend. Cosell was typically on the broadcast. I remember the Holmes years, again because the bouts were on tv a lot. There was Leonard and Hagler, a couple of Spinks. I don't remember Foreman on tv until later in his career.
Anyway, all that to say I think boxing used to be a lot more mainstream America than it is today. I think corruption in the sport and too many divisions/organizations kinda watered it downs well.
Baseball has fallen off in the same way to some extent.

I’m guessing the big fights going ppv as opposed to being aired on national tv played a role.

Well the OL for 2025 was always going to boil down to the tackles. Obviously Seumalo and Frazier are very good players. McCormick is young, but has an upward arrow. Fautanu and Jones will have to be good. If they are, the OL should have a nice year.

Its still on tv my friend.
The difference is back in the day you are talking about, we had 3 legit channels, today with satellites ,cable, and streaming service.....I'd not even know where to start at how many there are. So now You have to be an actual fan to watch.

I try to go to all the local cards I can, used to be quite a bit, but now I live farther away, and so instead of going all the time, I do it now more sporadically.

Yep, when I say 'on tv', I'm meaning those channels. I know you can pay for ppv on many different services or pay for sports channels that offer different things. Boxing used to come on like your regular Sunday or Monday night football. That is no longer available. To me that's mainstream America. I don't even get baseball games like I did growing up. America's pastime is no longer mainstream. I'll go to the ballpark or a local venue for bouts but I'm not paying for extra tv. I wouldn't watch it enough to justify it.

Yes that’s what I was trying to say. The other thing there is so much more to watch even sports wise on tv today verses 20 years ago it’s harder to be mainstream …. Everything seemingly gets watered down with the exception of the nfl.

Don King as corrupt and immoral as he was kept boxing popular and in the forefront

When he petered out so did boxing’s prominence

Well to be honest NFL then is not mainstream. If You actually want to watch every game of your team live , You must have many different channels.
