I can’t even read the crap they put out any more. Sports used to be written by people who were actual writers. Think Myron Cope, Dick Schaap, Roger Kahn. These people had journalism degrees and then specialized in sports. Now it is a degree in communications, and we have people who can’t spell and put a coherent sentence together. I guess that sports journalism got stupid because the rest of the country did.
The latest puff pastry crap today was that the Mets “could” acquire Oneil Cruz. No mention of who or what they would give up to get him. I suppose the Pirates will just magically give him to the Mets for nothing.
I also read that the Mets, Cubs, and Yankees were going to trade for Mitch Keller. I think it is even up that the Pirates will hold on to Keller until the winter meetings, when he would bring more. The guys on expiring contracts like Icky Falafel are the most likely to be moved now. Heaney and Pham are in that category. They won’t bring much because you are getting only half a season of them. A blocked minor leaguer is the best you can hope for.
Anyway, the writing, if you can call it that, sucks equine testes.

You, yes YOU, could write an article, on your opinion and pure speculation, about any fairly well-known player, and it would get picked up on every social media outlet, online news service, and 'insider' blogger/pod caster/beat writer in the universe, just for the clicks it might generate. NO ACTUAL CONTENT NEEDED.

Broadcast isn’t any better. The Pirates are 12-8 over their last 20 games but you would not know it to listen to The Fan. Everything is “Pirates suck…Nutting sucks…”. Well, we know that already. It is like a broken record.

I think some of the articles are written by AI these days.

Here’s my problem with these kind of statements. If people didn’t watch/listen then it wouldn’t be a thing. However, as a nation we clamor for clickbait and ignore actual journalists, but lump them all together. The people at practice everyday, media passes granting them access to the locker room after games etc are actual journalists/ reporters. The people on espn/nfl network are largely just talking heads reading crap from a teleprompter. They’re not in the locker room and conducting interviews. People complain, but keep tuning in to cowherd’s show and the like. If you know those things are garbage why watch?

I quit watching television a long time ago (don’t have cable or satellite) and only have a vague idea who Cowherd is. I tune in my car radio every so often hoping to find something intelligent, and end up tuning right back out. it is said that sports is a microcosm of society. Well, I guess America got stupid, and sports journalism eventually followed.
The Pirates have a pretty good team in A ball, the Greensboro Grasshoppers. I can’t find much written about them, though I would like to. Those players will end up in Altoona next year, guess I will have to drive over and see them then.
A well written piece about them would be more interesting than “Pirates suck…Nutting sucks….”

Again. If people didn’t listen there wouldn’t be a market for the clickbait crap. Instead of doing that they tune in everyday and then complain about the state of journalism/media. Makes no damn sense.

Greensboro is 77-40 this season, they are crushing the ball. And the AA Birmingham Barons are on a 22-2 run and nobody knows about it. Instead we know Cam Heyward wants more money.

Journalism is dead. It's all about clicks and ratings now and generating publicity to draw attention to yourself.

If I followed that league I would probably know. I don't know who the NASCAR champ is either.
I think the sad state of sports journalism refers more to all the click bait articles that have misleading headlines just to get traffic, with no actual info or original thought.
But I'm gonna look into the Barons now.

This is sad, but true. The media is not the same in sports. Like you said, they used to be quite a few good writers. Now they're mostly cheerleader types ,some with some political slants and young women who really are there for thier looks, not thier brains and what they can add to the conversation.

This is not to say there are not good sports casters under 50. There are rare.

The Pirates do suck and Nutting is a disaster.

Seriously, this team is 15 games below .500. Their lineup is a joke and everyone knew it going into the season. The coverage of a team like that should not be positive.
