The disappointment is he is a DE and there's talk about him being a scheme guy rather than a guy who wins out based on talent alone. I don't like this pick

I'm in the disappointed camp, but it's not because I think JJ is a bad player. I just think we need to improve our O. We have neither a RB to play ground and pound, nor the weapons to open up the field. Since we didn't address with our first rd pick, I don't see us improving.

I hope you guys are right. I don't feel great about this pick because he's already 24 and some folks are saying he might not even play this year or he's only a situational player. My biggest problem I guess is the amount of other options we had, he'll have to prove to me he's worthy of our #1 pick. With the way we've been drafting lately I have the worst feeling here.

I'd be more than happy to be wrong, but our #1 pick shouldn't seem so much like a gamble that we could lose.

It never ceases to amaze me at how critical people are of our front office given their nearly 100% success rate with first round picks. Have faith, people!

People are going to ***** and moan no matter what the team does...

Hey at least we're not the Cowboys picking a 3rd rounder with our 1st pick.

Well with Al Davis gone, JJ has the floor all to himself now.

Hardly anybody is talking about this pick, across multiple Steelers boards, The few people that are talking hate the pick.

I think by the end of this next season you all will be happy with this pick. Here again, and because I'm not afraid to eat crow, you can throw this in my face if I am wrong. However, I'm never wrong when I am right!

yeah hes also know to have neck isssues and hes one fo the oldest rookies even.. then DL lets him "learn " on the bench for 2 years and hes suddenly the 26 year old rookie.. next year he plays.. plays well and is gonna as a free agent.. and last time i looked it was our O that sucked more than our D and we lost wallace.. the bengals picked after us and moved ahead of us after round one... stupid pick

Doesn't mean squat, he can get to the QB and we need that. You're projecting his neck to be a problem and to be a bust when nothing in his play has backed any of that up. Great pick.

I think we actually got older on defense rather than younger. I think he's older than Cam and Cortez.:lolol:

So far only one out of the last 4 first round picks have proved themselves. Pouncey

    Hood
    Heyward
    DeCastro

They may not quite be considered busts just yet, but they haven't proven themselves either.

I like the pick but he needs to play sooner (this year) rather than later due to his age.

Anyone heard HinesWardHOF's take on this pick?

Anyway, I'm not sure there was a "great" pick available to the Steelers but they've just picked up a guy who was hugely productive in the toughest conference in College Football. I think he's a really good solid pick who may not have the combine numbers but has shown himself to be a football player in actual games. Hope the draft continues as well.
