What's happened to 'standard' ticket prices?

Maybe I've just been away too long, but since when is the 'standard' ticket price for a Steelers game (not resale, just the single seats that are unclaimed), 150%+ above face value? I asked a season ticket holder what the face value for the Packers game was for a decent lower level seat, and he said somewhere in the low 200's. The cheapest lower level sideline standard single seat on Ticketmaster all in is $523. In the past, it was just face plus Ticketmaster fees for a single standard ticket. Are ticketmaster fees $300+? Nothing would surprise me, but that sounds punitive even for the ticket mafia!

I wouldn't get a ticket this early anyway, but times certainly have changed. See you all here on the boards for opening kickoff!

 

I feel like ticket prices tend to be higher this early on. There isn’t much urgency for ticket holders to sell. As games approach, I would think they should come down some.

 

No idea. The last time the Steelers played here it made more financial sense to buy cheap season tickets then to buy a single game ticket.

Thanks for the file, brother. In my past, the season ticket price for individual games is what you could get them for on Ticketmaste4 (plus ticketmaster fees, of course). In those days, ticketmaster fees were about 10-20%. NOW, a $241 seat in row 138L or further back is quoted at $522 for an individual standard seat on Ticketmaster (not a resale). That's a 120% markup. Still I would always wait until closer to gametime. Thanks again. I still have hope of being there for the Packers on 10/26

 

I have no knowledge about what tickets would go for currently in Pittsburgh but I do know that 20 years ago ticketmaster in Minnesota forced me to buy a ticket package to get Steelers at Vikings tickets that included a preseason game of the Chargers at the Vikings and I paid over 500 for the tickets. I still get random emails for Chargers tickets from TM.

Why is the Seattle game part of the 3 most expensive games on the schedule? Sunday 11AM. (Seattle, Green Bay, and Buffalo)

 

They were trying to say the preseason tickets were basically free but why they were pushing the package deal I had no idea. It was a strange experience.

Yeah, I just saw that as week 2, and didn't put the pieces together about it being the home opener.

 

it used to be you paid the same price for every ticket. including preseason. yes full price for preseason. there was no seating license either for season ticket holders. the price did drop for preseason tickets but you then had to buy a one time purchase of a seating license per seat. season tickets then started adjusting per the opponent in pricing. food and parking went through the roof as well. the NFL is like the fat kid at the end of the chocolate line eating as much as he could. soon and it's already started and i might add i said this many years ago, you will soon pay a ticket price to watch it at home since they miss out on parking, beer and food along with your ticket price. they will get it from you one way or another. feed the machine. follow the money.

 

The nfl now prices their single game tickets to market. meaning, teams simply scalp their own tickets.
