Then you must be a cold blooded killer because you’re the only person I’ve ever heard of that doesn’t exp that. The connection was the adrenaline rush exp while hunting compared to what you would face in a life or death situation. /edit buck fever is what the adrenaline rush is known as

When I was a kid in middle school we could take off up to 2 weeks excused absence to hunt, at the start of deer season. Hunting puts food in the freezer. Not trophies on the wall. I've hunted over 40 years and never felt like I was trembling from adrenaline. Hunting and fishing are 2 of the most relaxing 'hobbies' I can think of. Do you experience this adrenaline rush when you go shooting to dial in your sights or set up a new scope?

There is more to getting a hunting license than for getting a carry permit. There are classes for both. If you want to carry, you SHOULD want to take a class on the different laws that come with carrying and carry safety at least. My opinion.
If you want to hunt same thing. I recommend taking the hunting safety class that also goes over hunting rules and laws in your area.

Personally, I don't carry. I could but I choose not to. But, if I felt the need was there, at least I have that right.

Oh. Well I think it's a great example of gun violence in the US. SO I guess you've lumped me in with my folks!

I don’t carry often. I could with my permit before we adopted constitutional carry and obviously can now. I just don’t feel the need. The one time someone held a gun to my head drawing would have only ended badly for me.
No. The adrenaline rush doesn’t come when target shooting or sighting in a scope. I really find it hard to believe you’ve been hunting for 40 years and never heard of or experienced this. It’s quite common, which is why there’s actually a term for it. I don’t know where you live, but here the hunter’s safety course is pretty bad imo. Now that might be because I had already taken one as a child in another state or perhaps because of my father’s teachings. Either way it was lacking imo. In other news our governor just signed a law that allows you to wear either hot pink or hunters orange. Another edit. Personally, trophy hunting is gross. I hunt because I enjoy the process and to fill the freezer.

My wife's family are big into duck hunting. I went once with them and that was enough of that. I don't mind cold, and I don't mind wet. But I refuse to be cold AND wet.
I'm in the south so if we get snow it's not typically until January/February and that's a big IF. I just don't like to get out in it when it's cold and wet at the same time. I have friends who have family in the north, as far as into Canada. They have invited me, I have not taken them up on it.
I've stopped bird hunting all together. Just don't see the flocks like there used to be. Dove and quail are a lot of time and money for the little bit you bring in. Turkey is still a good hunt to me, a lot like deer.

Growing up on the Chesapeake I used to duck/goose hunt a lot. Not so much in Georgia. Well, not at all in Georgia. The only time I duck/goose hunt now is if I visit family for the holidays. Then if I do it’s really freaking expensive because of the out of state license fees.

here’s the aftermath for lack of a better term of not following the first rule of firearm safety. A few years back I was hunting the same property I have for going on two decades. I got into the stand sometime after 5am. This stand is located along the edge of a fairly large field it’s 600 yards long and a couple hundred wide. The stand is located along the edge just off center. I’m sitting there playing sudoku while waiting for legal shooting hours. I look up and see 3 deer in the field off to my right. It’s still dark enough that I only know they’re deer. So I sit and watch waiting patiently for legal shooting time. By that time I’ve lost track of one of them. However, there’s one about 80-90 yards away. It’s facing away. The second deer is a doe and 50 or so yards away perfectly broadside. It’s right at the edge of the field where it starts going downhill. I line up the shot and it drops. Wait 5-10 minutes to make sure it’s down and then make my way to it. It’s a perfect shot through the boiler room. So I start walking back to grab the Polaris. I’ve made it probably 30-40 feet from the kill when I come across another deer down. This one is a spike with an entry point right on the shoulder, but no exit. Wtf? So I start walking again and then the property owner shows up on the Polaris. He had heard the shot and came to help. I explain to him this is the deer I shot, but there’s also this other deer. We load up both and took them back to the pole barn. If you turkey hunt you’ve probably heard of the property owner. So he grabs a thermometer and takes the temp of both deer. It’s identical. So I get to processing and find my Barnes vor-tx 100% copper bullet in the second deer. The only thing I can think is that spike was lined up perfectly behind the doe and I simply didn’t see it. So yeah I ignored for lack of a better term the #1 rule of firearm safety and took two deer with one bullet.

I don't have a 2 deer with one bullet story but I have lived the old joke about shooting at a rabbit and finding multiple kills. A cousin and I were small game hunting and he shot at a rabbit. It ducked down and then stuck its head back up. One of us shot again and same result. We ended up bagging 3 rabbits thinking we kept missing the first one. The 3rd fell forward or we may have gotten more. Lol. That was with .22's. They weren't going to over-penetrate anything.
I deer hunt with a 30-30. Less kickback than my .410, plus I like the lever action rifle. It was my grandfathers as well, so sentimental attachment.

May have to get a hook in the water this weekend after this conversation. Reminds me it's been a little while and I need to get back in nature for a day. Even if it's just me.

    I prefer to bank fish.

My grandson is 8 and is on the spectrum. I take him to the lake but it's never for fishing. Just let him cast and reel it in over and over, throw rocks into the lake, or splash around if it hits him. He's not a fan of loud noises so No shooting or hunting.

I have to go by myself if I want to do any fishing. A year license odds only about $40 and each lake has around a $5 day fee. Mostly crappie.

Sorry to hear about your grandson. My ex has a severely autistic son(non verbal etc).she posted something the other day about him going surfing. From the photos I’ve seen he really seems to enjoy it. Here’s a link to the organization if you’re interested.

That's pretty cool. My grandson loves the ocean. He roller blades and hover boards. He'd probably be interested in surfing.

Chicago is a dangerous place, and their gun laws are the strictest of any place I've ever lived, and it's the most times I've ever heard, and seen drive by of any place I've ever lived, and I've lived in a lot of places. I'm not going by stats, I'm strictly going by what I've seen with my own eyes.
    Edit:
I also seen 2 people not get their CC permits in Arkansas after the background check.
I did ask why, but I know they didn't get them.
