True and the defense also need to be more agressive in coverage....The opposing QB had too many quick easy throw for 7-8 yards everytime,so the pass rush had no chance against that....If the coverage is more tight,it will help a lot but if they continue to play soft coverage, they will have no chance and the result will be the same

But, Shanahan developed a rookie 7th round QB into a franchise QB. I think that makes up for the whiff at QB with the Lance pick. Steelers hypothetical equivalent would be striking gold with Oladokun and developing him into a franchise QB after Pickett busted. No way in hell was Tomlin/Canada developing Oladokun into a franchise QB... much less Pickett.

What Shanahan and Purdy have pulled off has been quite impressive to say the least. Kurt Warner is the only example I can think of who exceeds this. UDFA Tony Romo was good, too... but he never sniffed a conference championship game.

I'd trade Tomlin and Watt for Kyle Shanahan at HC in a heartbeat.

Purdy looked very ordinary without Mccaffery on the field.

Still better than Pickett, Trubisky, Wilson of '24 and Fields.

There is nothing to develop with Oladokun or Pickett because neither of them is any good.

Um....not even close a hypothetical equivalent. You are totally leaving off they gave up three 1st round draft picks, and a 3rd round draft pick for a player they didn't even use.
Imagine that they may have actually won a SB with those extra picks, instead of just going to them, and losing.
You would want everyone in Pittsburgh crucified if they gave up 3 first round draft picks , and a 3rd for a player they didn't use.

He's also leaving off the 3 first round, and a 3rd round draft pick they gave up to get Lance. His head would explode if we gave up 3 first round picks, and a 3rd for a player we didn't even use.

our CB’s usually play 5 yards + off the receiver. That certainly doesn't help

It's actually pretty remarkable how quickly they recovered from that trade. If it was the Steelers, we would have been suffering for a decade. I mean, look at what the Bush trade did to this team and it was half the draft impact of the Niners.

Yup. People rarely use logic and reasoning they simply plod along like they are watching the news and believing everything they hear. If tomorrow they heard dog shiat was a good protein there would be people walking behind their dogs scooping up their crap . Oh wait

Joey Porter Jr was among the best Corners in Football as a Rookie. Took a step back in Year Two. Hopefully third time is the charm.

Only time will tell, lets hope it is not all talk. Remember the last 5-6 games of last year?
Remember the playoff loss in Baltimore? Where we were shredded and couldn't stop anything Baltimore did. Quite possibly the most embarrassing playoff loss
    in A LONG time.

    I mean...

Pittsburgh getting their asses kicked against Cleveland only 5 years ago isn't that long ago. You are right about the team underperforming though.

Would purdy be a franchise quarterback without a ridiculously qb friendly system?

The awful playoffs loss vs Jaguars in 2017 and the end of season collapse in 2018,2020 and 2024 were so awful

Maybe not... what I'm saying is, the Steelers need to adopt a more "QB friendly system" and step into the 21st century NFL. Hiring a new HC with a background in offense would be a good first step.

Ike Taylor ('03), Bryant McFadden ('05), Deshea Townsend ('98) and William Gay ('07) were all good draft picks at CB. Problem is... Steelers have only drafted one good CB since William Gay.... JPJ. Keenan Lewis ('09) was decent but signed with Saints after rookie deal. Joe Haden was good... but Browns drafted him.

How come that great Eagles staff didn't develop Pickett into being a better backup QB? Or Andy Reid and the Chiefs hasn't developed Oladokun into a better QB who can be available for trade?

Maybe because Jalen Hurts gets all the snaps. How can you develop a QB who holds a clipboard?

I don't think the steelers would develop Jalen Hurts very well if they would drafted him in 2020....Not in a Matt Canada offense, this is for sure

    coaching matter

Pickett played in 5 games for the Eagles, and got second team practice reps. The Steelers didn't fail him because he's just not a good QB .

We'll see. The jury is still out. Pickett may end up like Darnold and Mayfield.... both of those QBs were considered "not very good" at one point.
