The low life that killed those folks was trying to strike at the NFL. Claims he suffered from CTE. I don't think he played in college even.

Last I read, they didn't know the motive, but I was wondering if it was NFL related.

Jagoff killing people because of brain problems he blames on NFL. Dickhead never played in the NFL.

I would think 99.9999999% of people murdering other people have brain problems. The others are just a$$ho1es. I don't find that news as any revelation. Mental illness can manifest in any conceivable way. Doesn't make this any less tragic or horrible. Just how it is.

I was reading about this shooting earlier. In addition to his mental health issues he had a concealed carry permit. How the **** do you get put in an institution twice and still acquire a concealed carry permit? In the article I read they reached out to the local pd inquiring about that and they were told to ask the New York City police department. Wtf

Where I live it's a constitutional carry state. No permit required by law. Everyone has the right. But there are exceptions for that, felons, addicts, mental health patients, etc. But if you're not required to get a permit, I guess it's on the honor system?

You still have to do a background check to purchase through any licensed gun dealer. They passed constitutional carry here a year or two back. I think it’s stupid, but so are our background checks. Answer these 20 true or false questions and you’ll be on your way in a couple minutes.

There is more to it than simply answering 20 questions. Once you've answered the questions then they run a full background check on you. Unfortunately mental health issues are not included due to medical confidentiality.

No. There isn’t. You put your name etc on a form, answer the 20 true or false questions, hand the dealer the form and your id and it gets faxed to the fbi. Most background checks are approved within minutes. It’s that simple.

ok there is still an FBI background check run. In PA you have to wait until it's approved and the license mailed to you. It would solve everything if the states went to constitutional carry

The need for normal citizens to protect themselves against the craziness of our country. I've been a licensed carry person for over 30 years. If you're a citizen of the US you should be allowed to carry to protect yourself.

It's not a fix. It's a constitutional right for law abiding, tax paying citizens.

Kennesaw, GA has a law that every household must have a gun. To me, that's as silly as a no guns at all law.

Hence me asking what it would fix exactly. Being that kennesaw is about 15 miles away I’m fully aware of the law.

You haven’t explained what it exactly it would fix.

    /edit

haven’t you spoken on this forum about mental health issues and use of a cds? I’m sorry if that wasn’t you, but if it was you’ve single-handedly proven the point about the background checks being a joke. Two of the true or false questions on the form ask about drug use and mental health.

We are tiptoeing dangerously close to breaking forum rules about politics

In constitutional carry states crime is down. Compare that to a city like Chicago. The background checks are not jokes. They prevent a lot of folks from purchasing firearms. You have to go through a background check to purchase one. It's the same background check for a carry permit. The issue are laws that prevent a background check from checking on mental health issues as a violation of medical privacy. Until that is fixed the issue remains. This is not a political discussion. I think we're fine

If you had answered truthfully would you still have been sold a firearm? No. If you had answered truthfully would you have a cc permit? Again no. The process is a joke.

I love how people like yourself love to point to Chicago as if it’s some trump card. Somehow you ignore the results seen in NYC. Additionally aren’t gun crimes in Chicago down like 30%?

I was listening to an interview with the singer of Jackyl. He lives there, or did at the time of the interview. That's how I found out about it. To me it's like a law that says everyone must own a dirt bike. Doesn't make sense to me.

It’s not enforced either. Just another stupid stunt by a politician pandering

Not an argument for or against any laws, but.... maybe if that building in NYC had allowed its tenants to have firearms the gunman wouldn't have been able to kill multiple folks? Maybe he goes down before he gets a shot off? Maybe he doesn't go there to begin with? That could be an answer to what Constitutional Carry could fix. There is no perfect answer to a situation that involves mental illness and violent criminals. Each case has to be measured independently. That's my opinion anyway.

we are the most armed society in the world and also the most violent. Pretty sure more guns isn’t answer. What you’re describing requires training. Training to deal and function with the stress of a major crisis and training to be able to actually hit your target. Have you ever been hunting? The adrenaline coursing through your body, heart pounding, trying to hold steady. Now multiply that by 10,000 because you’re in actual danger as well.

Like I said, case by case. You just can't lump it all in together and come up with a fix it all solution.
I do hunt. My entire family hunts. I don't ever feel what you're talking about. Plus, I see no connection between hunting and what we're talking about in NYC or CC.
