Its about where we dont go.

We can all say that there is a ton of positions to fill and I agree. But, removing all trade ideas, where must we NOT go in the first at Pick #17.
Middle of the first round you should still be getting a STUD. What are the positions that are not even close to the value that we have.

Based on our youth and talent I say:

    The obvious QB.

    Stay away from:

Defensive Line: Heyward Hood 2 and 1. Kiesel still has 2 years and McClendon needs to be given a shot. Plus we went DT in the 3rd round last year.

Outside Linebacker : Give me heat. You are invested in Woodley and Worilds. You draft for development.

Cornerback: You have both your starters. You know Gay and you have Allen who is the prototype of CB we like, just a bit bigger and likes contact.

Offensive Line : Although it is everyones dream but you never have 5 probowlers on a line, ever. You dont need 5 studs. 2nd round picks should develop well.

Tight End: Yes Heath is hurt and who knows when but he will be back and that is the key, he will be back. He is aging but his replacement can be picked up within the next 2 years.

Saftey: Age yes. Injuries yes. Still a team leader in Clark and one of the best ever at his position, no name needed you know who.

    Leaves RB, WR, ILB.

i love your enthusiasm, but this team has a ton of holes.

they still need help at the cb position.

they need to draft a young qb that be developed into a solid backup. if they go into next season with Batch and Lefty again it will be terrible.

the 3 starters on the dline should be Heyward, Hood and McClendon. Keisel is one of my all time favorites, but he has little impact on a consistant basis. they need to draft some youth and depth.

they also need help at both MLB and OLB. the starters are fine, but Woodley cant stay healthy and we dont know what we have with Worilds yet and Foote didnt get any younger this off season.

the oline has been a mess for far too long now. they have a bunch of potential, but as of now thats all they have. Pouncey is good, but i think he has been a bit over rated and his best season was still his rookie year.

as far as safety goes they need help there. both Clark and Troy are great, but they are both old and Trot cant stay healthy.

they need help all over the place. this is not a team that is one player away from being back to the super bowl. they need a great draft and they need to sign a few good free agents that can step in and contribute right away. another bad draft will set this team back for a few more years and we may just see our chance of getting more rings with Ben in his prime disappear.

I disagree on OLB. How are we "invested" in Worilds. This is the final year of his contract I believe. If he has a breakout year, we can't afford him. If he doesn't perform great, he's gone.

Agreed. Nothing has been set in stone with this roster for years! Jarvis is available, pull the trigger! Add Simon in the 3rd! If the ones already here don't get it, "thank you for your service."

Holes are something like not sure who your day 1 QB is.
A Hole is having no idea who you defensive signal caller is.
A Hole is missing a Vet to control the poise of play on and off the field.

The Chiefs have Holes; large Gapped Holes.
We have very few HOLES, we have a ton of "?"
Every projected starter on the team right now has started. (If I am wrong, then they have at least gotten significant NFL snaps)

Pick 17 should be a plug and play player. Starter right away Day 1.

Its not enthusiasm its the NFL process.
You Draft, you invest TIME not just money, and you see the product.

over the last 10 years they have failed on 50% of their 1st round picks if we go by your day 1 starter thought. Troy, Ben Miller, Timmons and Pouncey are all starters. Holmes was decent, but hes gone. Mendy had some moments, but hes gone, Ziggy is still a work in progress, but by no means great, Heyward just needs a real chance and DeCastro needs to show he stay healthy 1st.

the Steelers have holes. maybe they are not as glaring as the Chiefs, but they have holes.

im not comfortable with the wr, rb, MIC ilb, cb, safety and dline. you can call them ? or holes to me they are one in the same. they have zero depth and we saw that last year. the wrs are a mess. no one is comfortable with the rb situation. the dline was old and could be young if guys are given a chance, but there is uncertanty. the oline hasnt been good in 10 years. who's gonna be the TE until Miller is healthy and will he ever be the same. the secondary is still not great and the safeties are old and Troy cant stay on the field.

so whether we call it holes or ?'s they have a ton of needs and they cant afford another bad draft.

If he has a breakout year the Steelers WILL RESIGN HIM. They will have no choice. Their defense is predicated on the 3-4 OLB and they won't let him leave, they'll use the franchise tag if they have to. Having a breakout year is the best possible outcome for the Steelers. The same scenario happened with James Harrison after he had an MVP season. Granted, Worilds is not a league MVP like Harrison, but if he has a breakout season that equates him as a team MVP therefore invaluable and not likely to be let go.

With as many holes/? they have it really does seem like it SHOULD be a BPA situation. With the exception of QB early I think anything else should be considered. Whether a guy like Lotulelei(who is a beast) falls, or a Cooper, or or Floyd(prob won't), or Millner. I chose those guys cause they play positions that most don't think the Steelers should/will look at. To me it really should be BPA regardless.
