I hear You, and I grew up watching the same thing, but the NFL didn't make then what it makes now, and so the players didn't either. We can only hope it works out in the long run.

From the time you answered I gave you credit was 51 minutes

That wasn’t even enough time to go poop and drink a beer

(I was actually cleaning my cured garlic crop and drinking a beer)

I would have trade him for a player like nolan smith jr but since there was not the opportunity i 'm glad they kept him

I am very happy for T.J. Watt to get extended personally. Moreover to the point though, perhaps how the Coaching Staff handled Cam Heyward last year could be a blueprint toward how they can handle T.J. Watt this season. Drafting Jack Sawyer seems to be the thought process behind it all given how much of a percentage of snaps T.J. has played within the past three to five seasons. That said, Jack himself is going to have to prove that he is capable of increasing his acceleration upon rushing the passer. Right now, not good enough.

Managing the snap count, even for Superstars, is of the upmost importance. EDGE Rushers are no different; more so a necessity if anything. Keeping T.J. Watt more revitalized for longer can pay off dividends later in the season.

TJ always get breathers in games…he fell off towards the end of last year.

He got paid for what he will do, not for past performance. He needs to rededicate himself and find another pass rush move to counter what other teams are doing.

No. Should have let him play the last year of his contract. If he's any good still, then franchise him for another year. Then let him go and get a comp pick.

The business side of me would lean this way

But from a leadership standpoint it would be bad for not only the moral of the player but the whole team

You would loose the respect of the rest of the players

It’s similar to the Cam extension

    T.J. Watt got breathers?! Interesting.

If playing 86% of the total snaps on Defense for the whole season is getting a breather, I would like to inquire about what percentile values would constitute for taking a break?!?! :hmm:

Playing that high of a level of snaps is insane. Need I remind people that Pittsburgh tried this with Cameron Heyward from 2019 to 2022. It bit them in the ass in 2023. Since then?! They have fully learned the lesson. I hope the same is true for T.J. Watt.

Drafting Jack Sawyer was a good step in the right direction in that line of thinking. Now it is up to Jack to improve his game to ensure that the plan to manage T.J.s snap count is a success.

They're a better team with him and it's not like they're paying a franchise QB.

That my friend is the difference. Many times we had to rush him back in, because whomever was give a breather was not doing well.

Lack of moves isn't an issue. The guy has a diverse set of moves. He disappears when he gets beaten up. He was dealing with two injuries late last season and it showed.

In the last game I don’t know if it was injury or assignment but he seemed to be hell bent to tackle the running back whether he had the ball or not

Then he would loose containment on the quarterback who still had the ball and he would get outside of him

I have my doubts how much you could get for between his age and contract demand

I’m thinking maybe s third definitely not a first

For a third I’d rather keep him
