A few STEELERS fans I know want Eifert TE from ND if he is there for us. I dont agree. Much more pressing needs. I could see taking a TE in RDs 5 or 6 but not 1. Thoughts....

While somewhat of a need with Heath out and not knowing what he will be like once healed. I wouldnt put it that high on the list...but at the same time I wouldn't complain too much about him being the pick (esp if they trade down first).

As in instead of saying taking him at 17...they would trade down to say 25 or something. So they would first trade down and then take him there.

I dont know...he easily could be though. As I said I really dont care to draft a TE that early. But it seems a lot of places having him as a end of 1st round prospect. But as with ANY player who knows what will happen...he could move up he could slide down...its all a crap shoot. But I think 17 is too early for him either way at this point.

TE's in 5 or 6 won't be better then anything we have on the roster now. Eifert is a dangerous weapon, I'd be happy if they chose him. He would also lessen the need to take a WR early because unlike TE's, you can still find a good wideout later on.

So you Blast are saying we should take Eifert in rnd 1? If he is there at 17?

the kid from new mexico lucas reed i think. he is taller, faster, and a better reciever than eifert. he just didnt play for notre dame. he can be picked late.

Depends who else is there, if he's sitting all by his lonesome then absolutely. If Jarvis and Vaccaro are there I'd have a harder time pulling the trigger.

Oh that's right, none ever drops further then they are mocked to go, I mean thats why we missed out on Decastro, oh wait.

Yes, I would draft Eifert at 17 but like I said, have to see who else is available but I'd be totally happy with Eifert.

Eifert is the guy I want, but I won't be disappointed if we go a different direction.

For me, I rank things like this:

    1. Move down and add picks
    2. Take BPA, within a range of positions. If he is the BPA and you can't trade down....you take him.

If he's there and Vaccaro, Jones, and Cooper are gone, take Eifert.

I have made Eifert my #3 choice (1. Jarvis Jones 2. Either Warmack or Cooper). I was originally against the idea, but I would be mad if we took a WR over Eifert. Simply put, I like Eifert more than any WR in this draft (Austin uncluded).

Now people are catching on. I still think we hope to move back and add picks, but I think you have identified the 3/4 guys which make the most impact for this team next year. I personally am not so sold on any of the ILBs or S that I feel we can't do just as well in rounds 2 and 3. Same with RBs and WRs.

I think Ogletree is going to be a heck of a player, and he would actually be on my own personal short list. The Steelers will avoid him at all costs. ANd I agree on S, noone is coming in to make an impact anytime soon.

As Dory would say, " Are you my conscious?" I totally agree.

In one of my mocks I had us taking Vance Mcdonald in the 3rd over a WR because I Like what a good TE can do.

Eifert can do everything well. He'll be a great in-line blocker helping our young in-experienced OTs protecting Ben, Great hands in the passing game and blocker in the run game. He's definately in my book a better fit and BPA when compared to any WR. I think 17 may be too high but then again if we did do that I'd wouldn't be mad. It would change my mock as I wouldn't take Barrett #2, maybe best OLB/DE left on the board @ #2.

I'm officially hoping we go with Eifert. So many of our mocks focus on D, as that's the Steeler way. But unfortunately, the new NFL way is to accumulate as many offensive weapons and matchup problems as you can. Eifert is the player that could do that, more than the WR/RB available. Our scheme will keep us in the top 10 Defenses, so we need to get better on O.
