Current projection is 12 picks next year and at least one poster thinks this will allow up to move up into the top 10

For argument I’ll make the assumptions:

We get the 20th pick Draft chart value 850
We want the 8th pick Draft chart value 1400
    That’s a difference of 550
Teams aren’t trading for the sake of trading so I am assigning a 50% valuation on what you are trading for the second thru seventh rounds those rounds equal 535
Keep in mind anything after round 3 are just crumbs
Put all that together we wind up with 1375
    That doesn’t make it
We may have to trade every 2026 pick plus something from 2027

Keep in mind for KC to get Mahomes they went from 27th to 10th and it cost them their first a third and the following years first

To move up next year may cost a 2027 first

And first you have to find someone willing to trade

So before anyone other than one poster gets all giggly over the extra pics it’s not a lot

Of course we really won't know until the draft position, but I am with you that the numbers in capitol really do not move the needle much at this time. With several teams who may be looking already having 2 1st next year, I think it will be difficult to get into the upper tier for the higher picks. I was thinking today however that the extra picks we have are not necessarily the trade options, themselves, but opening up options to trade 1-3 ups the advantage, while still holding decent capitol to fill our own coffers.

All kidding aside Ben Jr is only 11 and Bodie is only 8. So at least 10 years before relief is on its way. For every KC success story, there are 10 Cleveland Brown horror stories and they didn't even have to package deals and trade up to grab the top QB out of college. Realistically, other than Terry B and Big Ben, Steelers haven't exactly done very well with QB picks no matter where they are in the pecking order or how many picks they could trade up for. Even Divine Providence doesn't seem to be on their side these days.

No need to move up when you have the top pick in draft.
    THANKS TOMLIN

You trade more for the player that for the draft pick,so the draft chart is not always accurate...Sometimes you need to overpaid more and this is possible it will be the case in the 2026 draft when everyone know that the steelers will be desperate for a franchise QB

It will cost us 2 first round picks at a minimum.

They may not draft a QB at all. The 27 draft is also considered a strong QB class and also Manning will likely be in that one.

Maybe next year they play Howard and if he’s not the guy then they draft one in 27.

Interesting thought that won’t be popular but I like it

Maybe they will parlay for more draft capital in 2027

I can just envision the 2026 draft thread if this happens

Yeah I will worry about it when it's the time, and not before. Many things can happen from now until April , with everything from the NFL teams, and the college kids going to be drafted.

Well of coarse. Another poster already said that since the draft is in PGH next year that we are absolutely, automatically 100% drafting a QB in round one. Hell we might even trade all 12 picks to go all in on the number 1 overall pick. It will be a can’t miss pick.

I think the plan is to pick a QB in 26, but having a strong 27 class keeps us from being forced into overpaying for the pick.

well since many here's only goal is to win a playoff game so we are as good as the other teams that get close and can't get to the dance, how high do we really need to move up? close is good enough. :smiley1::cool:

They likely won't have 12 draft picks in 2027, why wait they won't have a shot at Manning anyway?

I guess they should trade him then while they can still get value. Maybe package him for that number 1 overall can’t miss QB pick for that PGH hometown draft. With a name like Manning he has to be selected.

Nobody is saying the Steelers are going to trade up for the #1 overall pick, the Ravens got Lamar at pick #32 and the Packers got Love at #26.

Those QBs needed to be in a good situation to have success at the start.I just don't trust Tomlin in that....I mean I don't think Lamar would been good with us if we look at what Tomllin did with Fields when he asked to be a game manager and be careful to not get hurt
