You should have just stopped at... in your mind. All HCs have a say in the game plan. All of them, but You can clearly see who is calling the plays on the sidelines, and it's not Tomlin.

He can be loyal to a fault and hang on to long at times. Canada is the only one I can say was pretty much terrible.

Was Mitchell left from Lebeau's staff?

Thats more or less been their business model, promoting from within.

Cowher was the one that hired him, he actually falls under Cowhers tree.

Correct. Was the Colts OC. Had he gone from the Steelers into a HC job, that would be different.

Actually he fail under neither tree, but in interviews I've heard Him mention Tomlin in helping him forward, and other coaches, but I've yet heard him mention Cowher. Also Cowher didn't always promote within, and definitely not a wrs coach. It doesn't matter, because He didn't become a HC after leaving Pittsburgh. It was after Indy.

Why doesn’t he fall under Cowhers tree? I always thought it was the coaches who hired them.

All this coaching tree talk is kind of overrated look at Belichick's tree, all failures except Bill O'Brien.

That’s his tree, lot of that has to do with Brady and Bill probably being the main cog on the defensive side.

Many other coaches I imagine have produced better ones.

The fact that no one even wants to give Tomlin coaches a chance is pretty telling.

Some coach are great assistant coach and very valuable but they are also very below average head coach.Steve Spagnolo,Dick Lebeau are good example of that....But it don't mean this is not important to have great assistant coach like that

Or maybe Brady and Belichick made those assistants look better than they actually are .

I did not talk about Belichick.....My point this is still important to have a tree even if they don't become a good head coach. It show the quality of your coaching staff when the other teams are interressed in your staff!

The issues with this defense are deeper than the play calling.

Yep and they moved on not for a promotion but laterally. That should tell you something.

Because He was not a Steeler right before he became a HC, and he's been hired by many HCs before Cowher, and after Cowher.

    Really what's it tell??
Ask Yourself Really what does a HC that has been to two SBs, and has never had a losing season tell you that they don't want his coaches as HCs. I know people will jump on the ....he hasn't won a playoff game in 8 years, but what about before all that??? What about when he was winning playoff games, and going to SBs....why didn't they want them then???

See that's were you guys lose me. Somehow its impressive that other teams make bad choices, and hire guys that end up sucking???
We see GMs make bad choices all the time, why is this considered different???
