I’m ok with Rodgers having limited reps

    The OL needs time together

i don't think he is a bad coach but it's really hard to tell yet. i would love nothing more than to see the same 5 play together for a long period of time. seumalo is in his final season, so i would like to see some of our young guards get extra reps.

again it's a fine line since they need time together since moves have been made again since last year. jones to the left and fautanu now on the right. our coach not only had to deal with starters going down and rookies then starting before they were supposed to. i want 5 guys to play for a few years together. that has to show a real view of what his coaching style is capable of. it can't allow consistency without that happening.

even when moore was here, he had like 3 different coaches, and then 3 different offensive coordinators. it sure doesn't scream cohesion. hopefully it's the start of something good.

it's almost as bad as tom arth has had with the QB room. never able to get consistent starting over all the time. finally he has a couple of guys to see for maybe more than 1 season.

Hard work never hurt anyone, these are professional players ,
they should act and train hard to be ready for the first game. Toughen
them up so they avoid injury.

I don't judge Meyer just on the Steelers. He's had other opportunities and muffed them badly.

    This I can agree on
Too many reps for Arod and he will be spent before 1st game

Jones 2 season. I know we currently live in the age of right now, but come on. Give Jones this season at least. 3 year is make or break
Of course this doesn’t apply to Fields, Darnold according to some on this board.
Apparently they get a 10 yr window to develop

No worries. If Dan Moore is the template the Steelers will give Jones all the time he needs in order to show something.

I predict Rudolph 50%, Howard 40% and Thompson 10%. I'd be surprised if Rodgers even suits up for a pre-season game.

    Agreed.

Wish Meyer would have been canned. Sadly, that wasnt the case. Never mind Broderick, Pat is Coaching for his NFL Future. If this doesnt work now, with the investments that have been made, it simply isnt going to work elsewhere.

    If you are into analytics:

With the draft capital the Steelers have spent these numbers have to start climbing or Meyer needs to find work elsewhere.

was that draft capital there and playing all those years? meyer wasn't even here in the 2021 season. not sure what those numbers represent. up until last year when a 2nd year 1st rounder started and rookie 2nd and 4th and a 4th year 4th round picks started, that isn't a ton of draft capital used to that point. one of those are gone as well. throw in an unstable QB, RB and WR situation and numbers are not going to be great.

this season should give a better view of what we have built and what meyer is capable of.
i'm not saying he should or shouldn't go but let's give the guy a fair shake before we blame everything on him.

2021 is a baseline starting point

In 2022 he coached a decent jump in performance on the OL.

Prior to joining the Steelers Meyers has coached up decent run blocking OLs. His lines have been inconsistent with pass blocking. This is probably why Tomlin keeps him around.

His lines with the chargers led the league in fewest sacks allowed. In chicago they ranked 4th fewest sacks in the league.

I can't give credit to the OL coach for the first season. That would be like saying Shaun Sarrett was a good OL coach cause the Steelers lead the league in fewest sacks during his time.

if you can't give credit then in the same vein you shouldn't fault him either. you said where he was his lines were inconsistent in pass protection and i showed you he had some of the top lines where he was.

as i said this year should give a little clearer vision of what he can do. i said i'm not rushing to judgement yet on him with all that has gone on since he got here. OC's, injuries, rookies. it makes a difference.

I agree he's had some tough circumstances. And I agree this is his tell-all season. Jones in particular needs to look better. This is FatTuna's rookie season as far as I'm concerned. He will be going through his second training camp. That is a plus.

it all may not be perfect to start. even different QB's can cause some problems. not so much in the base plays as much as tendencies of the QB. does he like to go to his right, left, step up in the pocket and so on. also i think it may be a little harder on these guys with the way they are talking of altering the offense to rodgers liking. what was taught last year may not be the same now. let's not forget RB's too. warren they can deal with but now we have at least two new guys. i just hope the same group stays together for the most part. seumalu possibly extended or replaced by the end of the year, so they can install a 5 that learns together.

Jones will play well enough to stay in the line up

He will show just enough improvement to cause the team to use the 5th option

Then he will plateau as a mediocre player

This should get him a $78M contract in FA

    I’ve seen this movie

When was the last time the steelers had a true stud LT? I liked AV but always felt like he was about to get blown up. As cool as Max Starks is and all the hype he had, I don't think he ever truly lived up to it.
