No, of course not. And it hasn't paid off for the steelers either, and ESPECIALLY for the steelers. That's the whole point of the post. They are investing waaaay too much in the defense and not getting what they need from it. Start cutting bait with these big (old) names on D start putting your $$$ where you'll get a better return on the investment.

Wasn't there a coordinator for some team that said that Tomlin's run the same defense year after year? I used to be in Tomlin's corner but the lack of success in the post-season for so long is undeniable. How often have the Steelers pulled off an upset under Tomlin?

Some posters believe Tomlin can’t coach a team at all so all wins would be an upset

Therefore he has 18 consecutive seasons of upset wins

    Just a random thought

    I’ll run along now

How is it that a fan on a Ravens board gets it, but some Steeler fans don't?

"Their problem isn't their strategy. It's that they have only made two attempts - in SEVEN drafts.
In 2018, with Roethlisberger headed into his age 37 season and dealing with injuries, they took Rudolph in the 3rd round.

    • 2019 - no QB drafted
    • 2020 - no QB drafted
    • 2021 - no QB drafted
    • 2022 -Finally got around to taking a QB in the first round -- Kenny Pickett
    • 2022 didn't really show a whole lot of promise for Pickett. But still...
    • 2022 didn't really show a whole lot of promise for Pickett. But still...
    • 2023 - no QB drafted
    • 2024 - no QB drafted
    • 2025 - no QB drafted (unless you count taking a flyer on Will Howard in the 6th round)
You can't expect to hit a homerun if you only take two trips to the plate.
If you've got a guy this year (or any year) that you think is YOUR GUY, then get him. And yes, if that means a big trade to move way up for a guy you are convinced is your franchise guy, then do it.
But there are guys in every draft who could be franchise guys. You mention guys like Hurts and Purdy having a team built around them -- well, that's what Pittsburgh has had. They haven't had a losing season despite having dog**** at QB. Imagine if they had grabbed a Jordan Love, or a Bo Nix, or I don't know, maybe LAMAR JACKSON instead of Terrell Edmunds. Hell, they could have had Hurts or Purdy, but they were too busy drafting guys like Chase Claypool.
If you're wandering the QB desert, you should be drafting one every year. Maybe multiple. To only spend one 1st and one 3rd on the most important position on the field in seven drafts is pure negligence."

Good point but I don't think Lamar,Hurts,Love, etc would been good in a Matt Canada offense because he was that bad

I would loved if the steelers would gave to Justin Fields a true chance last year too for a entire season.Maybe he would been our answer for the next few years.I will be very upset to Tomlin if in the next few years Fields is very good with the Jets...Yes I know his 3 years in Chicago but he was in a such bad situation with one of the most clueless head coach in NFL history and his OC was awful too. Both have been fired during the season last year

That’s pretty damning to only take Mason and Kenny in 7 years. Will Howard will be lucky to still be in the league as a backup in 3/4 years most likely. With the Steelers archaic offensive philosophy and MT as HC you would have to draft someone high and often to make sure they are fool proof basically.

This ignores the fact there are two different general managers with different scouting department etc. Also you don’t take a qb just because there is a quarterback sitting there. They have to fit what you want to do schematically and you have to believe they’ll develop into an nfl caliber starting qb. If the player in question doesn’t then taking one is just foolish.

brock purdy was a round later than howard. after you draft one you don't usually immediately draft another one the year after. that's the browns.

as for the more players on offense than defense on rookie deals, yes, sort of.

So get the QB to fit the scheme and not the other way? Sure, that's what all the top teams do.

up to now wilson hasn't been a starter yet. jones i had listed. johnson may or may not start over warren. so yes there could be more starters that are on first contracts but there is a huge difference in offense to defense. TJ's should increase it. and a few other will be increasing on defense by next year. we will lose rodgers off the offense and DK's will increase. warren will come off unless they re-sign him. that's what i was getting at.

for some reason I called Washington , Jones. With the way the roster is constructed Wilson is a starter. They weren’t giddy over Johnson for him to sit on the bench. He is our #1 back.

So we are supposed to believe that Steelers scouts/org didn't believe any other QB besides Rudolph and Pickett would develop into a starting NFL QB in that time frame?

Simple fact is that they ignored the position just like they ignored the OL for years until it was an obvious train wreck. The time to look for a new car isn't when it's sitting on the side of the road with the tranny stripped.

Kahn has finally made it a priority for 2026, maybe 5 years late.

The only priority of Kahn’s that you or anyone else can speak confidently about is that he’s building the trenches first. There’s a big fat pile of fan and media speculation that Kahn is going all in on a qb next year, but speculation is all it is.

It's strong speculation they played the comp game this past free agency to get those extra picks in 2026, the draft is in Pittsburgh and it's expected to be a strong QB draft. It's safe to assume they will draft a QB in the first round.
