This sportwriter agrees with me - Tyler Bray could be the QB of the future for the Steelers

Read 'em and weep. Gerry Dulac has an interesting article about possible QB fits for the Steelers in today's PPG. At the top of the list, Tyler Bray. He says the Steelers, and many other teams, think he's the top QB in the draft and he could be a good fit as someone that we can groom for a few years to take over for Ben. Many believe he can develop into a quarterback in the same mold of a Joe Flacco. Well, I'll just let you read it...

It says right in the article...

The Steelers are not ready to start grooming a replacement for Roethlisberger, who is 31 and entering his 10th season in the league. He has three more years remaining on his $100 million contract. But that doesn't mean they would pass on a talented quarterback who still needs several years of development before he is ready to play in the NFL.

I have no problem with taking a QB, but if we take one in the first 4 rounds it'd be a really bad pick. We have a ton of holes, we need to try to find starters in this draft, not guys that will rarely see the field.

I agree that Tyler Bray is the most talented QB in this draft, but I want no part of him. He's extremely immature and there's all kinds of stories about being a bad leader, lazy, immature, etc.

Don't think it would be a good idea Jack. James Wexell backs up what Steel has been saying here...

    "James Wexell:
PFW on Bray: very immature and aloof, not a respected leader, short attention span, not detail-oriented. ...had boating privileges rescinded"

Not exactly the kind of traits you want in a guy who runs the whole show.

Oh Jack when will you ever learn??? LOL. I'll tell you what. When you come down for some golf I will introduce you to some hardcore Vol fans that I guarantee you will talk you out of this. Bray even smashed out a girls window for calling the cops on him for throwing beer bottles at people. He's just a bad person and I think we've been taking enough bad people here lately. Actually last week a couple of guys were making fun of me because they think the Steelers are gonna take him and they hate the Steelers just to spite me. Jerks! But the overall point is that they are huge Vol fans and really dislike Bray and are glad to see him go. There's no doubt that he can sling it though. But as far as the intangibles I just don't think he has them. He's another Cutler in the making in my eyes.

I've heard and read about all of the anecdotal evidence around Tyler Bray. Remember how all of that "anecdotal evidence" served us in the 1983 draft? There was this punk QB coming out of school who was apparently immature and even did coke. So we took a pass on him and drafted a big DT from Texas who liked to drink and party too much and one night while doing those things crashed and hasn't walked since.

And before you guys blast me, I know it's a major stretch to compare Tyler Bray to Dan Marino. Those guys aren't even on the same planet, let alone the same league. But my point is that we could get a special talent at a steal in the 3rd or 4th round and could (I said could) have our franchise quarterback of the future without having to spend a franchise (high first round pick) on him.

Let's face it guys, all of these kids are immature in some ways, some way more than others. Ben was a choir boy coming out of college and he's done some things (allegedly) that makes Ryan Leaf look like a good guy. You just never know what somebody may develop into. I would hope that with a few years of grooming and maturing in a strong and stable organization, somebody like Tyler Bray may actually turn out to be a good guy. I believe in redemption and I hope the rest of you do too. That's why Ben is still a Steeler.

But isn't it widely believed that the Marino stuff was actually a fabrication by the Dolphins to drive down his stock so they could get him? I've heard that anyway. With Bray though it's actually the stuff of record. I know your heart is in the right place though. But being from around here I could never go for it. But obviously I would love for you to be right and me to be wrong. Franchise qb's are hard to come by for sure. Hasn't Mayock actually said that he "hates" this qb class? I know he has been blasting them and I read the other day that it's possible that no qb could be taken in the first round this year. So that leaves me with the question of how is it that the Steelers can think Bray is so special and other teams totally just pass on him? Is it the off the field stuff holding him back?

Marino was passed on because Dan Rooney was voted down when it became known he was acting on a tip by a local sports writer to draft him. That info comes from Mr. Rooney himself. That incident is the reason Ben was drafted, he didn't want to pass on another "Marino".

Bill Pollian said Landry Jones is the best QB in this draft, if we could get him in the 4th i would be happy, but i doubt he is there..
