I can't say to Howard, but I do believe we would have drafted a QB. Maybe Howard.

Rodgers, Mason, Howard QB room is probably the best outcome

In his time in Chicago, Fields was a 60% completion rate passer. His 6 games with the Steelers he had a 66% completion rate. Fields is not a terrible passer. His ability to run is what gives him that X-factor. I see the appeal to keep Fields.

On a 1-year deal, ARod is the better QB. That's factoring in ability to play QB in the NFL. I get it that Rodgers is not a long term answer at the position. Fields at least is a maybe. Both are better options than Mason Rudolph.

Thing is, the deal was struck with Rodgers early. If Fields would have come back on the offer, next year would have been his year. Rookie QB will sit. The plan didn't work out. That's my theory.

Right, Rodgers over Fields, Fields wasn't going to be 2 so he left, Plug in Mason (a close to ideal back up QB) and Howard and you have the best QB room under the circumstances, given what we were dealing with

I feel better with Rodgers as Qb of course, but then i remember who is still the HC and i get depressed.

“well re-assess, go back to the lab” here it all comes again….more cliches and tomlin excuses, but of course its the players fault, after all, what is tomlin supposed to do with guys who need to be coached up and prepared on game day? I’m just numb to this stuff after 15 years

from what I read after the Rodgers signing, he was their plan c. They were trying to trade for stafford. Obviously that didn’t come to fruition, but once fields got word of it he said I’m out. So then we turned to Mason and Rodgers

I don't see how they could not have. They , didn't see enough from the 3 preseason games, and 6 regular season games to give them enough confidence that he was the answer moving forward, plus he got hurt the little time he played, so I think they would have drafted a Qb anyways. JMO

So from what You just wrote, they must never had much confidence in Fields . That's should say it all.

I agree with that, that's why they brought back Mason, who they know about, drafted Howard, and brought in A. Rodgers.

Yes...sort of. He is more clutch than Wilson. Howard is probably not ready. Mason seems like a good guy...but not much of a QB. The only thing(aside from all the AR is not a leader stuff) is that Rodgers is getting old and could miss time.

As you said, they offered Fields peanuts. I think they saw all they needed to see during training camp and those six games he started last season. They would have been fine with him as a bridge guy for a year or two. He seems like a good guy who says all the right things. He just isn't good enough to be a long-term answer.

Maybe, maybe not. We will never know. What we do know is he did show improvement over his time in Chicago, the bears suck, and never having the same oc in consecutive years matters

NFL network is running a Hard Knocks marathon. Currently showing the Jets with Rodgers. I just watched a bit so far and Im not liking what I see from Aa-ron when he is frustrated.

Do you want a quarterback that is happy and easy going when the team is playing poorly

Preferably I want a QB that can articulate not only to his teammates but his coaching staff as well when he is frustrated and things aren't working. I will say his sideline coaching and helping Zach Wilson was encouraging. The part that worries me is the passive aggressive comments made under his breathe or out loud when the frustration level is high. They scrimmages against the Panthers and he stood next to Saleh after the offensive line gave up technical sacks or wr's ran the wrong route and said out loud that play sucked from its inception and maybe people learn that now. So not just Oline play but even his buddy Hackett's play design.

Edit: I had the same problem with Ben's bs at times too. The Washington dive for the ball where he overthrew him and then said to the media he'd prefer that he kept his feet and run through the catch.

Again. No matter what. Rodgers is the best Qb we've had since Ben.

Someone already explained why the part about revolving offensive coordinators is misleading as an excuse.

Fields did not improve. He cut down on his turnovers because he was forced to play more conservatively, but he also made fewer big plays. He still looked like a one-read passer, having almost all of his success when he was getting the ball out quickly. More importantly, he still can't throw with touch. That was a big part of why he didn't work well with Pickens, whose greatest strength is making tough catches in traffic. Can't do that when all the quarterback can do is throw line drives. There is no excuse for a quarterback to go through high school, college, and four years in the NFL without being able to throw a pass with touch.

Really? Go to tell that to shanahan that says it isn’t until year 3 that a qb and oc are on the same page. It’s not really relative because some other guy on a message board says so.You are full of excuses. He cut down on turnovers, but that doesn’t count
