They traded a 7th for him in march, presumably as draft insurance, but then went on to draft Jayden Higgins in round two. They already have Collins and a few other young guys. They really didn’t invest anything in Kirk so if you dangle a fifth or sixth round pick in front of the Texans they may be willing to let him go.

Doubs is also going to be buried in that Packers WR depth chart with Reed, Golden, Watson etc all looking for targets

While this is great to hear, especially from a person who is an avid CA III Stan, to say that he will be the number 2 WR heading into to the season is a bit too optimistic. Quarterback play hasn't helped CA III at all in this regard. Same goes for the nightmare that was Matt Canada.

Thankfully, Arthur Smith does know how to call an Offense (when he isn't a Head Coach) and Zach Azzanni has done some good work with him given his production increase last season; CA IIIs own efforts no less. However, given how many reports there are of the Steelers gunning for another Offensive Playmaker should not be discounted. The interest is very real in that regard.

Long story short?! Pittsburgh still doesn't believe it has enough weapons Offensively. Whomever the team elects to trade for in the coming weeks isn't likely going to be here for the short term but likely a longer one.

Kirk’s contract was restructured to help the Texans’ 2025 cap. He has a dead cap hit of $14M+ and the Texans have less than that in available cap space. While I’m sure something could be done, I don’t see the value in taking on a very tight cap situation for a 5th or 6th while also losing a guy who is likely their #2 or #3 depending on how quickly Higgins acclimates to the NFL. I’d like to have him, but I don’t see why the Texans would make that trade.

Doubs is a player that I really liked coming out of college and is a capable WR, but he did take a week or two off last season because he didn’t like his number of targets. To me it’s red flag when a player bails on his team during the season for his own personal stats. Pass.

Agree that Doubs could potentially be a problem

On Kirk, not to be pedantic but he’d be a post June trade. They’d save $2m by trading him. His contract redo looks like it was set up so that they could trade him away if he is surplus to requirements. Maybe they’ll decide after camp that Higgins isn’t ready and they’ll want to hang on to Kirk, but he is a good veteran possession receiver and definitely worth a phone call IMO

I, for one, actually believe that we already have a very good wr rm..... sometimes it takes the right qb to get the best out of them..
Look now further than Denver, where Demaryus Thomas was on his way to 1st rd bust status until Peyton Manning came to town and unlocked him.... plenty of other examples as well....
Some of you gloom and doom guys here make me laugh......
Can't wait to throw all this back in all the naysayers faces towards the end of the season....

    And yes..... I'm keeping track

Wilson a 2? lol some of you guys are dreaming.

Roman Wilson should be playing flag football. Not NFL football.

As a die-hard Steelers fan of 45+ years.... I wish Roman Wilson the best at WR. But I'm not very hopeful he will be the caliber of #2 WR Steelers need to make a playoff run.

I have been saying since the Pickens trade the Steelers should call the Packers to try and trade for one of their receivers.

Baring a trade for someone like McLaurin there isn’t a lot out there that moves the needle much. I dont think much of Doubs, hope they dont trade for him.

Alec Pierce is a name I just heard which is intriguing. Contract year, might not cost much to pry him away.

Jalen Coker is another name, grinder currently with Carolina, works his butt off in a crowded WR room, might be worth a look.

Can cross Keenan Allen off the list, said he isnt interested playing here which is interesting, hes friends with Mike Williams. Wonder if he spoke badly about the team.

Another way to look at it is what is $14M worth in draft stock - Kirk hasn't played a down for the Texans, but meanwhile restructured his contract and converted $14M in base salary to bonus that stays with them in a trade.

So while they do save $2M or so this year in trading him, they still take on $14M in dead money. How much that's worth to them in draft stock I'm not sure, but a 5th or 6th feels pretty thin.

I agree, he probably would suck at flag football too.

Yes you’d probably end up paying a bit of a premium for that if he is available. That’s a good point

Still, you’d be getting a veteran player for practically nothing (in money / cap terms) on a one year no-risk deal. It wouldn’t be crazy to do it from the Steelers POV

They are going to trade for someone. I’d be very surprised if they don’t

I don't think we should have got rid of him. Let him play a year and get a comp pick that would have made him a 3rd, and also draft or pick up a FA next year.

I wasn't trying to imply he'd be a bad pickup per se, just that I'm unsure of what Houston would want back for $14M (and the seventh round pick they gave to acquire him).

Aside from the contract issue one factor that might rule him out of their thinking is that he isn’t much of a run blocker.

Bigger guys like Lazard or Doubs are probably more in line with what they’d want for their run heavy scheme.

Robert woods is renowned for his run blocking and it’s no coincidence they picked him up this offseason, most likely to mentor the younger guys

Thought the same with Woods. And I almost mentioned Kirk's size/blocking could be viewed as negative in conjunction with Austin III and Wilson.

Part of me wonders if that's why the were connected to Smith and Pitts despite having Freiermuth and Washington.

Non-sequitur. I get what you're saying to a point, but I didn't see Zach being 'emphatic' about Austin, and what do you expect him to say while they're exploring trade options, that they desperately need help? That's going to kick the current room in the ass publicly, which isn't good coaching, and hamper negotiations.

Last year they were in negotiations for Aiyuk right up to the latter part of August. Criticize them for hanging on too long without a backup plan if you want, but it's not like they weren't trying to get an upgrade.

This, and if Roman Wilson has anything, and Mount Washington is better utilized.....I know I'm optimistic , but there could be something there. I still stand by the Qb makes most of his weapons....good , or bad.
    Not all, but most.
