Teams now know how to outsmart the salary cap with voided years contract. One of the reasons the Eagles are so good and they'll be able to keep their core together for so long...

Maybe one day they'll pay the price for 1-2 seasons, but it probably won't be before 2030. So their window is wide open despite a QB with a $50 million contract and two receivers earning over $25 million per year,RB with 20 millions, plus a loaded o-line and defense!

The key to all this is having an owner who wants to win at all costs.

Your post is legitimate, but the other dynamic is how much the CAP has gone up, and the Eagles in (particular), draft and develop well enough that moving on from players in the system is easier. Those void years will hit, if the CAP keeps going up and the system they use keeps generating home grown players they can and likely will be competitive. The owners can try to tweak the system, but with the amount of money coming in it's hard to see them really giving a crap.

Really, for the last 5 years I see a decrease in the number of teams spending over the cap. 19 --> 20--> 17--> 15--> 16 I am assuming those Void Years are causing teams to spend less money, because they have more Dead Money against the Cap.

Not sure why you think the Eagles, who currently have over $380 million in future dead cap money, are going to be able to keep that team together for a long time??? I think the Eagles increased their Future Dead Cap money by another $80 million in 2025. I am guessing the Eagles are hoping for an Un-Capped year before the next NFLPA contract like they had in 2010. Are the Eagles going to be the first team to hit $500 million in future dead cap money.

It's possible to stretch it as long as you can... It's going to be interesting to see how long they'll be able to extend their window, but as long as they're great and continue to draft well, their window will be open for a good while.

And it'll be worth it even if they have a bad year in 2029 or 2030 because of that.

I don't think the Rams care about their 5-12 season in 2022 when they were in the Super Bowl twice in the previous five years... And they've bounced back well since then.
