There was a fairly obscure movie based on that photo, called “Number 1”, with Charleton Heston as an aging QB.

It will be a washed QB like Kurt Cousins and the cycle will continue in 2027 and after that(maybe Stafford in 2027 if he has nothing left in the tank?)

AB was 5 years younger then and worth taking a chance on.

There's a whole thread about 2026 QBs in the Bill Nunn draft section on here.

I look at that strategy like counting cards at the blackjack table - it gives you a slightly better chance, but the odds still favor you losing. So wagering too much on a single hand may still be unwise.

Here's a list of the QBs taken in the first round through eight years starting in 2015, along with notables from later rounds.

    2015
    1.1 Jameis Winston
    1.2 Marcus Mariota

    2016
    1.1 Jared Goff √
    1.2 Carson Wentz
    1.26 Paxton Lynch

    4.135 Dak Prescott

    2017
    1.2 Mitch Trubisky
    1.10 Patrick Mahomes √
    1.12 Deshaun Watson

    2018
    1.1 Baker Mayfield √
    1.3 Sam Darnold
    1.7 Josh Allen √
    1.10 Josh Rosen
    1.32 Lamar Jackson √

    2019
    1.1 Kyler Murray √
    1.6 Daniel Jones
    1.15 Dwayne Haskins

    2020
    1.1 Joe Burrow √
    1.5 Tua Tagovailoa √
    1.6 Justin Herbert √
    1.26 Jordan Love √

    2.53 Jalen Hurts

    2021
    1.1 Trevor Lawrence √
    1.2 Zach Wilson
    1.3 Trey Lance
    1.11 Justin Fields
    1.15 Mac Jones

    2022
    1.20 Kenny Pickett

    7.262 Brock Purdy

    2023
    1.1 Bryce Young
    1.2 CJ Stroud √
    1.4 Anthony Richardson

Moving up clearly gives you a better chance of hitting on the pick, but you're still looking at a coin flip (9 of 18) over a QB picked inside the top-10 becoming a quality NFL starter, and about a 41% (12 of 29) chance of those taken anywhere in the first round making it.

Bottom line for me is that they didn't need to stand down completely in free agency this year. There were a few players that I think would have made good fits and strengthened the team overall while also allowing enough firepower to trade up to a good slot next spring.

He jerked them around for months. Regardless of his ultimate decision, that made them look foolish. They look less foolish since he finally signed. I'll give them that.

I just hope they don't let him push them into going after Lazard or some other player he wants as a teammate. I already had a few folks tell me the Steelers will bail the Jets out of that lousy contract they gave Lazard. I replied that the Steelers aren't the Jets. I hope they prove me right.

I personally don't think the situation had made them look foolish - though that stop wasn't far down the tracks. That said, I would've preferred them to have appeared more decisive in addressing the position given the options out there this year.

There were no golden tickets, and even the lottery options looked extremely unlikely of yielding much in return. In times like that, the reasoning or resolve behind your decision can stand out more than the decision itself. I would have preferred to see them come out of the door and lock Fields up to a deal on par with what he got from the Jets, and I'm not a Fields fan. Watching all-22 on him was painful at times last year.

Still, whatever low chance he had in becoming a quality starter in the league down the road was better than Rodgers'. And while I trust Aaron is still better at reading a defense, and is probably still a better passer than Fields (though that gap is closing with time), if the reports are accurate they still offered Fields a contract first - so they can't really claim 'first choice' with Rodgers (nor were they his).

Given a QB room occupied by one Skylar Thompson to pair with a newly acquired $132M receiver, Fields jetting for New York, and the team seeming to acknowledge the Wilson experiment was over, it's hard to say they didn't come out of the early days of free agency without some egg on their face.

I don’t believe you are correct

It appears he was open and honest in communication with the Steelers the entire time

I thought they could've spent money on a young CB in free agency, I wasn't interested in going after DL the draft was the better option. Most years it seems there are 3-4 first round worthy QBs, next year I expect there will be 6-7 that's why I'm not worried about it.

I don't think he jerked them around the local media has been saying it was a done deal for a while. They probably agreed upon the date when he visited with the team.

One reason I dislike the Rogers signing.

The Steelers should still draft a 1st round QB next year in addition to Howard. They need to draft a QB every year until they find a permanent solution.

Agreed i don't think they were foolish. And there was no QB I wanted. Honestly I still would have went with Fields or Rudolph.

Rodgers scares me with his age and his numbers last year were not impressive at all.
