You can always structure the contract as you want....Just look at the eagles right now

 

not if he retires after one year. big difference in what they are doing. also puts you back in the heavy dead money pool and how you deal with the aging vets down the road. minkah, TJ, and having to sign porter, and free agents. you can put your team in a bad situation kicking it down the road. the eagles will pay at some point. that also leaves you trying to draft a franchise QB and not being able to put anything around him.

 

I agree,now this is not the time and the plan of the steelers make no sense right now but this is a another story

But for the eagles,yes this is possible the eagles will pay at some point but it will be like in 2029 or 2030 when their SB windows will likely be over and they could have only 1 bad year like the Rams who did the same thing(even more extreme because of all their draft pick they trade)

teams have been doing this stuff for a long time. back in the 49ers hay day with montana they would buy players families homes and cars and other things to not have to show it against the cap.
