The Dolphins have had trade discussions with the Pittsburgh Steelers about their lone Pro-Bowl selection last season, tight end Jonnu Smith, per league sources. Those talks came after Smith expressed an interest in reworking his deal that is scheduled to pay him $4.8 million this season. With Smith seeking a new contract, Miami has sought a trade partner. Last season, Smith set the franchise record for a tight end in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. Smith’s preference, per sources, is to stay in Miami under a reworked deal.

    Gotta love the Steelers.
    Gotta have 15 Linebackers
    10 TE's but only 3 WRs

I would rather have Kyle Pitts but ah well.

Jonnus best years were under Arthur Smith. Perhaps that can be replicated again.

Pitts has been a major disappointment Atlanta is still waiting for him to play like a top 10 pick.

I don't get this trade proposal are they going to trade Muth for Smith?

    Perhaps.

That said, new scenery might do him some good.

You never know. Now, for what Kyle wants?! Agreed. Everything else?! I'd be willing to take a chance on him; doubly so if he is a Free Agent in 2026.

They're already paying Muth decent money I don't see them spending what it would take to get Pitts on the team.

I guess the Steelers feel if they can't get a WR2, they will just add another TE .

What happened to Muth? ... he has gone from "the guy" ... to now, we are trading for a guy to take half your snaps.

Arthur Smith wanting his former players didn't work out too well for the Steelers last season .

Muth choked almost as bad as Andrews last year. He's not a clutch TE like Miller was.

Hence why I did say 2026 along with the type of payment he would want.

Keep in mind, this is all hypothetical for another major reason; Kyle Pitts may not want to play for Arthur Smith as it stands.

Muth's individual success rate was 63% last season. Somebody be dragging that average down...

Maybe the stats may show something different but it seems like we don’t even use the TEs we have. Muth and Washington are good players. Why go and get another?

He seemed poised to break out under Smith in Tennessee (I followed him as a sleeper TE option for fantasy leagues), but while his most productive year was under him in Atlanta in 2023 (55/582/3), last year with Miami was when he really went off (88/884/8).

He's dangerous as that third or fourth receiver that's too fast for LBs and too big for nickel backs.

It's not that we don't use the TE....it's the Qbs don't use the TE.
While both used Muth about the same the different between the Qbs , and the use of Washington was different...
Just look at the jump of TE use from Washington when Wilson played Qb compared to when Fields played Qb
....7 targets in 6 games with Fields
17 targets in the next 6 games with Wilson. It's not a whole bunch, but it's more than twice as much.
    Qbs matter.

True for Miami. That said, Smith does know how to use Jonnu Smith better than anyone considering he was a huge advocate for him back during their time in Tennessee.

Jonnu is still on the table but who else?! Olave?! Christian Watson?! Some other relative unknown?!

    Will be interesting.
