It was so fun when he opens up, which happens sometimes, but too rarely (when it happens, it's at home). But unfortunately, against the Jets, after the back-to-back 6 TD, it was one of the worst offensive game plans I've seen under Haley... The Jets had a strong front seven, but their secondary was very poor, and the Steelers decided to start the game with so many short screens (Ben was 9-11 for 24 yards to start the game) and with runs in the middle despite the Jets' strong front seven and weak secondary. Afterward, Tomlin had the weak excuse that it was the turnovers that decided the game, even if the first turnovers the Steelers were already down 10-0

That's what I find frustrating... sometimes they're aggressive( when our backs were against the wall) and they were fun to watch, but sometimes, inexplicably, they were conservative like crazy

Scoring points must always be the first priority on every drive unless you have a good lead.

Bruce Arians once said he doesn't care about time of possession, and he's had great success as head coach.

But you act like Cowher wasn't conservative much of his career , they lost the 1994 AFCCG by playing Martyball.

The Steelers had 54 pass attempts in that game versus 26 runs...They had dominated this game except for the penalties and the scoreboard. But I still agree this is the worst playoff loss of Cowher's career....I can easily name 3 playoff losses worse than this for Tomlin.

Since when is losing by 3 points to the future back-to-back Super Bowl champions embarrassing?
Losing in overtime on the road against Joe Montana is not embarrassing too

Despite the Steelers having Homefield in 1997 against Denver, the Broncos had a better record than the Steelers, and the Broncos had one of the best three-year stretches in NFL history from 1996 to 1998(46-10 including the playoffs and 2 super bowl win)

The only reason the Steelers were the slim favorites was because of their win against them in the regular season, thanks to a spectacular game by Kordell.

The Steelers overachieved in 1997, having lost several players in previous years, such as Greg Lloyd (to injury before the 1997 playoffs), Greene, Rod Woodson, etc., but they still made it to the AFC title game...it was a great coaching job by Cowher and his staff!

    Oh boy.
Tomlin has less losses at 3 rivers and more wins at Heinz than Cowher

Tomlin’s philosophy is better suited for Cowhers era. But if they are successful building the lines and dominating the trenches on both sides of the ball, maybe they’ll be successful playing that style of ball then.

That's the problem, and I'm not downing him, but He didn't watch those games, or feel those games, he has only read about them, and seen them after the fact.

No you can't because the Steelers were at home as double digit favorites in the 1994 AFCCG, those losses to the Browns, Broncos, and Jaguars were first round losses.

Well they better get rid of all the Harbaughs, because they all have that philosophy. I also believe when Chiefs won their last SB , it was with that philosophy. You know I don't believe they beat one team in the regular season that scored over 20 points, and only one in the postseason. That was a very ball control, and Defensive team that year.

To be clear, I don't have a problem with a ball-controlled offense and being a run first team and defensive team... that's what the Eagles were in 2024, but you still need a strong running game with a strong defense, which the Steelers don't have right now.

But when your team is built to score a lot of points, like the Steelers were in the Killer B era, at no point you should be conservative when starting games.

People were saying the Chargers at the time was one of the worst Super Bowl teams ever, Jacksonville had the #1 defense that year IIRC. They intercepted Ben 5 times in the regular season loss that season.
