The dude is strange. He is far from the originator. Back in the old days, the Vets didn't do mini camps.
As I understand, though I have no hard evidence, he was pondering a personal issue..... and didn't want that distraction in any camp of a team he signed with.
It is also my understanding that our folks were good with that.
It sounds like, "I'm going to sign with you guys but it won't be until late May, I won't bring this distraction to your camp" and Pittsburgh agreed.

So I expect Rogers to sing this coming week sometime and I suspect he'll not be a distraction here.
I'm more worried about cap numbers, but it also another understanding that they have the outlines already agreed to.
I can say it's not really speculation, but what will come to be. Providing whatever issue he is working with, doesn't prompt retirement.
On that front I can say that I don't know many 41-year-olds throwing this time of year that are thinking retirement.

I am hoping for reasonable cap numbers.... :)

When Rogers lost at Green Bay, in the snow, to the 49ers 2021... that was a huge disappointment.
It is also a huge driver.
But apparently, our Front Office and Coach thinks he can still play and after looking at film, even the stench filled Jets trash, at the end of the season he was playing decent ball.
But try to get a Jet fan or a hater to admit that. It's like putting panty hose on a alligator.

Most really have a hidden agenda - to go 5-12 or something.

My thoughts are anytime you can get a vet like that in and address your QB position during his time, is not a awful thing.
It's fools gold to think Mason is changed.
And Howard is a long shot at best. (though I heavily hope this kid pulls a Brock Purdy.)

So while I agree, the roster is not built yet... We got to have something better than Mason or Skylar to even be competitive in the race.
Now if you want to "tank" - then that's different.

my problem with rodgers is do we get half a rodgers? how committed is he? is he partially retired? how much effort will we get? sure he's a long time vet and can complete passes in his sleep at this point just like ben at that point. or we roll with a guy that may not be as polished but has been in the league awhile and i'm sure will feel like it's his last shot to start and will work his azz off to show that. you build off of guys that work to get better not rely on one and done and start over again. this is an opportunity for the team to move forward and at some point to find that new leader whether it is mason or not but move forward not stationary. we have a newer offense. a newer OC. a newer QB coach. a newer bunch of receivers. a newer run game. a newer O-line. i want it built for the future. JMO.

So what you are asking is whether a 75% Rodgers is better than a 100% Rudolph? I think I know that answer.

The Depot had a nice article on QBs that started games last season. Boils down to an average of 2 QBs playing per team (pretty consistently the last 5 years), and 25% of teams played 3 or more. Given the Steelers OL, I wouldn't be shocked if the Steelers go through a couple of QBs before the season is over.

If they sign Rodgers, I doubt if he lasts more than a few weeks with that offensive line. So plan on seeing a lot of Rudolph (and Howard too probably).

But I'm not counting that. I'm counting the last two years he played. Hell I could count the last 5,10,or 12, but I'm only counting the last two, because that's when a lot of people were saying He was done.....on this board, and in the media.

What the hell are You going on about ??? LoL
Hell I could go back 2 years , 5 years , 10 years, 12 years, but ...again...I'm going back to the last two years when a lot of the people on the board, and the media started saying He was done. LoL
What part are You not getting??? LoL
Nobody was saying He was done before He got hurt, all the talk came after he came back.....so that's why I'm using the last 2 years....you know his last years where he was his oldest.

He's counting 2019, when Ben was inured and didn't play the bulk of the year.

It's accurate in that not really accurate sort of way that's part of his charm. ;)

The question is assuming AR signs, can our line keep a 42 year old from getting killed (lasting the season).

Some of that training you mentioned could be legally required if you worked for a corporation. They likely could have told you to pound sand for refusing to do it. Rodgers needs to sh!t or get off the damn pot.

My gauge is deep ball passing. In his last year of playing it was noticeable the accuracy dropoff of Roethlisberger's deep ball.

Here's the last year of each QB's air yards >=20 yd passing:

    B Roethlisberger (2021) = 18/59 = 30.5%
    A Rodgers (2024) = 21/57 = 36.8%
    R Wilson (2024) = 20/42 = 47.6%

I was in my last two years. There was zero they could do or even if I cared.
I think Rogers is lockstep with Steelers Management.
Also, I would have liked to get him in sooner to build some cohesion with the team but really, rookie camp would not have benefitted him.
So flip a coin. The only real difference is the certainty.

I do agree on all points.
I have heard Rogers is in shape and working out. I know he is throwing.
I do agree with youth, and that is the direction to go. But we don't really have a QB, the keystone of the offense.
So I look at it as a plug and play.
It's also a disappointment that we made zero effort to secure either of the options we looked at last year?! At least they know the system and didn't have to adjust much.

Funny, when he did play a full season for the Jets they went 5-12. TBH the guy was pretty damn good for the Jets. He has a season like that with us we'll be heard from.

I would love to have the stats on air yards from 10 yards or more
