Kahn has basically rebuilt the entire roster

More that Cowher and Noll combined too!

Tomlin had also a drought of 4 years without playoffs win in 2011 to 2014

Omar Khan seems to be steering the draft well up to now.

He's drafted OL with BroJo, Fautanu, Frazier, McCormick, and Spencer Anderson. 4 are expected to start and Anderson is a multiple position backup. Even if these guys don't all pan out, it is a solid plan and execution.

On DL he's drafted Benton, Lee, Harmon, Black, Herbig and Sawyer. That's drafting to improve the trenches on both sides.

Like I said, can't tell how this will work out long term, but it is the right way to rebuild a team without completely giving up on being competitive.

While I'm not excited with where we are at QB, some of these outlets seem to be ignoring the context of the situation. The one move that could have been made in free agency was Fields. I'd prefer him over Rodgers, if for no other reason than the lottery ticket's chance of upside he had. Failing to secure him to then sit around and wait on Rodgers, with a backup plan of Rudolph/Howard, comes off as poorly-planned and counter-intuitive in a way that represents the strange teeter-tottering the club does between compete and rebuild.

As for the draft, I'm not sure who they think would solve the problem and where they should have taken him. This was simply not a strong QB class. That doesn't mean we won't see some starters come out of the class, but outside of Ward none stood out on film as a guy they had to take at 21. The best argument I see is passing on Sanders in the fourth.

They're getting flak because they haven't seemed more urgent in finding some kind of solution/patch, and some of that is deserved. But some of their critics are being lazy in their reproach as well.

Yeah, they could've spent more in free agency but at least they played the comp game right.

They maximized their comp formula, but IMO they could've spent a little more to improve the roster now - they're still playing catch-up from poor drafts of years past.

Granted, you have to look at who was available and at what position. I liked DJ Reed at corner. Short, but effective.

It’s almost as if they are throwing the towel in on this season knowing the QB options just arent there to win them a championship and are playing for next year. You can say what about Metcalf but they signed him to a multi year contract.

True, but given how they traditionally have been, in conjunction with some of Art II's statements in his end-of-year presser, I figured the historically aggressive move they made for him would spur them to make sure they at least had Fields in their pocket on a Jets-type deal. And if he shocked them by heading to NY, they would still buff the roster by signing a couple of others to multi-year deals (Reed signed for three, e.g.).

The one-year guys like Slay may protect the comp formula, but are going to be gone next year. But I agree, they were listless once free agency began.

The Steelers didn't 'move on from Fields', Fields moved on from the Steelers.

The Steelers had their choice of every QB besides the #1 overall in this draft. Was the #2 QB better than the #6DL? Time will tell if they made the right choice.

And the "2nd Rd pick" is an upgrade over Pickens.

If they wanted him, they would have kept him. That's 2 teams that have let him go. I didn't see a bidding war between the Jets, and other teams.

Dumb signing imo. If you’re trying to run an outside zone based run game why would you sign a guy that fits best in a gap based scheme

When does a QB and WR come into this rebuilt? Or did Kahn not know about that?

Yep, he's new to football. He doesn't have all of our knowledge and wisdom from years in chat rooms.

Honestly though, Khan is a 'new' GM. None of his draft picks have yet reached the end of their rookie contract. That might not mean much to a 'rush to flush it' organization, but the Steelers have proven themselves again and again to be a very patient organization. He's going to be allowed to build his relationships. He actually just drafted a QB in April, and he drafted a WR in last year's draft. Neither have played yet, so this is where the patience part kicks in.

I haven't agreed with all of the FOs decisions, and know we live in a Not For Long timer in today's game, but at the same time I try and temper expectations.

    For now at least. ;)

Agreed, it's not looking good on paper. And out didn't help Tomlin quits after he had a winning season.

i agree and saw that. he was a tackle. i wonder what lecitus smith did to get cut loose already? he had some NFL starts at least. maybe just extra depth for the right tackle spot? not sure why this move.
