Just as I suspected, you have to cut the head off. Should have been done

There's talent acquisition, and then there is roster construction. Roster construction = 53 guys to 22 players. I have little doubt that Tomlin is in control of the roster construction but it's not totally clear if he has total control of talent acquisition.

I would think when it gets down to the 11 on the field the OC and DC have substantial input

No owner is letting a $1M guy waste the talents of a $10M guy with a guaranteed contract

    Balderdash

I’m amazed that some of you don’t realize MT is the boss and calling all the shots. I’m not saying Omar and AR don’t have a role and a voice but MT is the one signing off on EVERYTHING and making the final decision.

Everyone is saying the same thing here. For example the GM work with Tomlin. We need to improve the defensive line agreed. GM then says “here are the top 5 guys in terms of talent however stay away from the #1 guy he has major authority issues/ immature. Tomlin “ great let’s take the number #1 guy on your list in terms of talent”. GM “ that’s a horrible idea let’s take #2”. Tomlin “#1 guy I can handle him”. See they worked together.

Again I'm not sure anyone but Noll had that power. Like I pointed out earlier Cowher, and Donahoe wouldn't have had that power struggle if Cowher had had all the power. There would have been nothing to be upset about, and He wouldn't have threatened to quit.

Yea, that was a big story in the 'Burgh back then. Who was going to go? In the end, Dan made the right choice because Donahoe went on to win nothing in his time in Buffalo.

Look at the Eagles. Roseman brings in the players and its the Head Coach and assistant coaches that need to fit them in to the scheme. I'm sure the head coach has a say but he is not in control there.

Here it is different. The Head Coach has the power. I would say to much at this point. The GM and assistant GM have a say but its Tomlins call.

I do like the fact that Weidl is around who came from a top notch organization. He also sets up the draft board. he is more of the players GM type then Khan who is the deal maker and works the contracts.

So here we are. But but the mean.

Stuck in the middle. Oh well, not changing my life any. Waning excitement year after year.

You know that the 1 million dollar guy is the 10 million dollar guys boss, right? He’s not some glorified secretary for the coach.

Likewise if the GM goes out and gets a player and pays him 100 million, guess who will be on the field every week.

    Nope

If the 10 guy doesn’t want the 100 guy the 1 guy doesn’t get the 100 guy

Ask Tom Donahue how that worked out

    Ask Huey Richardson

Exceptions don’t make the norm. Owners hire GMs to build the team and coaches to coach the talent they are given.

They work in tandem, thats why GM’s hire the coach, they find the coach with the same vision and will work well together. 9 out of 10 times the GM has final say between the two and the owners of course has final say over all.

When you have two guys that clash like Donahue and Cowher, one has to go and Rooney saw Cowher as the more important cog for team success and out the door Donahue went.

not here. isn't that the premise of what we are saying with tomlin in control? you just confirmed what you called clickbait. optics are more important here as long as tickets are being sold. this is why after 50+ seasons i don't buy them anymore. they lied about never going to require seating licenses too. art2 is about his dads legacy of the rooney rule, being a lib political look and his dads love of ireland as to why MT has the power and we are playing in ireland while protecting the family income. he could care less about the fans as long as they fork out the money. blunt yes but all of the facts point to it. grandpa is turning in his grave. i hope the next generation of rooney's are better and i live long enough to see it change back to what this team was built on. probably not though and i have done what i had to do to protest it. i'll still remain loyal but not like before. follow the money still holds true as in everything else in this world. :smiley1::cool:

I mean he was the one who created this culture and assembled the roster with Colbert.

I'm not saying that Tomlin doesn't deserve credit for his early career success, but Cowher deserves some credit for that too.
