    Same thing I wonder.
I did admire his getting in Haskins face as I saw him first hand up close in Washington, he just wasn't focused.
I think he is burned out and set in his ways too much.

I've thought that was the case for years.

Tomlin was asked one time why he isn't harder on some players, and he said something like, "because I want to respect them as men."

But the problem is that there are certain individuals that were not acting like men, but like big children.

Coaching grown men in the pros. Professional ball players with agents and contracts. The coaches ask, the players either comply or do not comply.

In Tomlins case, it is a hard read.
Some have theories, but from the sidelines I've never seen some of the claims.
I am not defending him just stating personal observations.

There's no denying 18 non-losing seasons is remarkable.
But the difference between a Tomlin and Belichick are the rings.

When the season ends, you have to come out of the corner swinging for the playoffs.
I remember Gibbs and company pulling all nighters to figure game plans...
(The myth about no-half time changes is only partially right, Gibbs' teams knew plan A and plan B)
Tomlin seems to line up and play the same old game plan.

Marv Levy was a great coach, took the Bill to 4 consecutive Super Bowls... 4.
    Didn't win a single one.
Tomlin gets in and has made 2 Super Bowls (1-1) out of 18 seasons, that is a bit subpar. 2017 seems like a long time ago.

Excuse me for continuously comparing Tomlin to Noll but i think Chuck was more focused on putting the best product on the field he could and winning. (He strove to get his players to perfect routine plays). And was less concerned about what the players thought of him. Tomlin got away with his approach by having superior talent, and winning in the regular season but he continuously came up short (except for 08 which was a long time ago). Things have caught up to him recently and i dont think he has it in him to lead the team back to the super bowl again

Ryan Clark is also tired of the 9-8 type season....Like this is the case since several years, the question for the steelers is not if they can compete but this is if the streak will continue

    Ben and DLB carried Tomlin.

18 years coaching in the NFL and no-one can ever say anything he is actually any good at as a head coach that can't by summed up by the word "vibes".

which neither of cowhers QB's were franchise QB's. the defense was good as is with the current team. i don't want to get close and not win it. it has to be the right QB or it's all for not. both of those coaches lost super bowls. is that a successful season? no. rings and things are all that count.

Cowher won 7 playoffs games with Kordell,O'Donnell and the scrub he had in 1996 at the QB position and the steelers make the AFC title game 4 times and they were in the super bowl in 1995.His resume without a franchise QB is still very impressive and we saw in 2004 and 2005 what he did with a franchise QB....27-4 combined with Ben in those years

Btw,our defense have been just awful for years in the playoffs too but nothing change, like Austin is still our DC and Butler stay for 7 years at this position.Stability is not good when the result are bad...Similar to the bengals under Marvin Lewis. If Tomlin loss his next playoffs games,it will tie a record of Lewis for the most playoffs loss in a row

Yep. Cowher won playoff games with Neil O'Donnell, Kordell Stewart, Mike Tomczak and Tommy Maddox.... all average QBs.

Chuck "Knoll" won playoff games with Bubby Brister and Mark Malone.

I forget about Maddox...Almost make the AFC title game in 2002 with him despite their worst defense in the Cowher era!

    I can’t even spel iliteritnation

    Head on Boulevard
A policeman is on scene at a terrible accident - body parts everywhere. He is making his notes of where the pieces are and comes across a head. He writes in his notebook: "Head on bullevard" and scratchs out his spelling error.

"Head on bouelevard" Nope, doesn't look right - scratch scratch. "Head on boolevard..." dang it! Scratch scratch.

He looks around and sees that no one is looking at him as he kicks the head. "Head on curb."

Cowher wouldn't win in the playoffs in today's NFL with QBs like Kordell or O'Donnell.

Maybe, maybe not, but they would have been more competitive since under Cowher, the Steelers had a much better playoff defense for the most part outside of 2-3 games.

So, why do they do poorly in the playoffs? Have they laid everything on the line to get there and are just too beat up? Have they been too rigid in their thinking and all the playoff teams have got their number now? Are they just getting there against good teams and losing?

I know that is a variety of reasons why anything happens and not just one thing that you can point a finger at, but I lean towards rigid thinking. I think that by the end of the season the Steelers have been running the same game plan for most of the season and the teams they play come ready with a good game plan then take advantage of what they know the Steelers are going to do in game 18 of the season. They just don't seem to have a surprise. Too predictable.

Actually there is no comparison. The whole of football is totally different today. I Love Noll , but we seen what happened after the main men HOFer were gone......6 wins, 5 wins , 7 wins, and so on, and He never had to deal with Free agency like today. So it's pointless to compare any coach after 1993 to someone before that date.

Soudns more like a cop out because he can't get through to them to me, and that drafting players while ignoring their blatantly toxic personalities isn't a great strategy.

Again for the folks that can add , subtract, multiply, and divide, you know simple grade school math, the standard would be 10 to 11 wins........not 8-8, or even 9 wins.
