Seems wrong to keep them out seeing the relationship today between sports and gambling. And Jackson performed well in the 1919 series. His numbers say he was not tanking.
Rose, I have no idea about. Did he bet against the Reds and then contrive to make them lose? Never heard him accused of that.
The steroid era guys? Fooey on them.

So they wait roughly 6 months after Pete dies and then decide they are okay with he did. What absolutely horrible people. They are either okay with what Pete did or not.

I hated the guy but wanted him in the HOF. Reason for hate, I sat in TRS and watch him and his Red Machine break my heart more then once. Then he helps my mortal enemies, Phillies, win a WS.

Still happy for him. RIP in the HOF!

Rose claimed that he never bet against the Reds, but Rose also lied repeatedly about betting on baseball at all until the evidence became too overwhelming for him to even try it. Let's assume he was telling the truth. He still compromised the integrity of the game. Say he had $10,000 on Friday's game, but nothing on Saturday's game. Wouldn't he be inclined to blow out his bullpen to win the game when he had a big bet on it? Or maybe he changed the starting lineup or rotation to favor the games when he had a bet or a larger bet.

It is far worse than PED users, who were at least trying to win at all times, not just the days when they had placed a big bet.

Nobody is okay with what he did, but there was pressure to remove the ban. There had been sentiment for years that he should be in the Hall of Fame, but didn't deserve to see it. Rose didn't just break baseball's ultimate rule and compromise the integrity of the game. He was a lousy person in many ways. I have a hard time working up any sympathy for Rose.

That will be mostly an unpopular sentiment. But I whole heartedly agree.

Such horse ****. Wait till he dies then put him in. Should have been in as a player a long time ago

Pete wouldn't have been elected to HOF as a Manager, only as a player. Did he bet while a player? I don't know. If so, then absolutely, shouldn't be in HOF. But lots of guys in any of the sports HOFs later went on to have personal trouble and issues. Probably a good chance though that neither Pete nor Shoeless Joe ever get the right number of votes with the stigma hanging over both.

"Pistol" Pete (Maravich) was a basketball player, not a baseball player. I also correct my nickname for Rose - it was Charlie Hustle, not Joe Hustle. Rumor has it that it was Mantle and Whitey Ford who called him that when he sprinted to first after getting walked.

So it was a mocking, sarcastic thing when it started. That seems appropriate.

Ty Cobb is in the HOF. So is Juan Marischal who did nothing more than hit Johnny Roseboro in the head with a bat! If being a good person were a requisite, there would be a lot fewer guys in there. If online betting had been around then, Rose would already be in the HOF. Make a fake profile, who would know?
