A reminder of how bad these 'experts' are on grading immediately after a draft.

Here's a few grades on the 2012 Seahawks draft (you know, the team that won the SB a year later):

    Donald Wood, Bleacher Report

Gave Seattle an “F” grade. Drafting Wilson was “by far the worst move of the draft.” Drafting Wilson and Irvin were “the two worst moves of the draft.”

    Jason Cole, Yahoo Sports

Gave an “D-” grade overall. Says Russell Wilson will “be lucky to be Seneca Wallace” and the Seahawks “are no closer to solving the QB situation now than they were before 2011.”

Pete Prisco, CBS Sports (Round 1 grades and Round 3 grades)

Overall, he gives Seattle a “C+” grade. He calls Wilson a “strange pick.” Says Melvin Ingram, who was picked by San Diego at No. 18 and has one sack in 15 games so far this season, would’ve been a better pick.

    Matt Miller, Bleacher Report

Gave Seahawks a “D” grade overall. Called Irvin a “grab.” Says Seahawks “messed up” by drafting Wilson. Says those two picks were “just bad.”

SI.com (author not listed) funny the SI guy wouldn't put his name on it....

Seahawks get a “C” grade overall for their “blah” draft. Seahawks were “bonkers” for picking Irvin. Says that Wilson “has a bright future, even if Seattle didn’t really need him.”

    Vinny Iyer, Sporting News

Overall grade is a “D.” He says the Seahawks drafted “defensive head-scratchers.”

    Dalton Johnson, Bleacher Report

Gave the Seahawks a “C-” grade. Says the Seahawks draft was “full of reaches,” including all three top picks — Irvin, Wagner (or “Wager”) and Wilson.

    1. Derrick Harmon ---- beast of a man.... finally, a replacement for Stephon Tuitt.... A+

    3. Kaleb Johnson ---- powerful runner. . Warren and Johnson will be very hard to stop..... A

    4. Jack Sawyer ----- there was no good reason for Sawyer to fall this far. We've been sweating the depth in the edge rusher room for quite some time now.. we can finally put that talk to rest....... A-

    5. Yahya Black ---- another that had no business falling this far.. our D-line is about to get scary again......... A

    6. Will Howard ---- i was really sweating the QB position until this... Howard is basically a baby Ben. A lot of people talk about the stacked team he was on that won the national title, but none of them talk about his success at Kansas St when he piloted them to a conference championship.... when you're successful at multiple programs, it's time to take notice..... A+

7a. Carson Breuner ---- son of Mark Breuner will be a very good special teams ace.... B-

7b. Donte Kent ---- sleeper pick .. more than likely will be looked at in the slot.... blazing fast and good tackler for his size..... B

Getting him in the 6th truly lowers any expectation for me. After he was selected my YT algorithm brought up his appearance in Gruden's QB podcast. This kid is likeable, coachable, and has football intelligence. Size and talent he can be an NFL QB, how good time will tell. One of the things I read was he 'read' half the field when he came to the line and had the right to audible with that he saw, that reminded me of Ben's rookie year, they cut the field in 3rds and Ben was able to slow down the process as he learned. No comparison, just the process. If surrounded by good talent I think he can be productive, we will see.

The chat in the YT room I was watching were totally stupid in this pick. Why, waste, we need ?????. The last several years we have brought in older edge guys for depth, either FA or trade. The draft is about not only current needs but future, TJ and Highsmith are not getting any younger, Herbig and Sawyer put us in a good place both now and possible the future.

On paper, I went with a solid A. It’s meaningless in the long run and a draft really can’t be evaluated for at least 5 years. But on paper we were limited in picks and filled our needs.

What PO'd me the most is I got in an argument we didn't draft a QB and I was adamant. Taking a lot of crap on that one.

What happens to your draft grade if Harmon needs surgery? Another terrible 1st round pick by Khan and Co. Can't he ever find a guy that is ready to play day 1?

I am predicting another year of watching our 1st round pick in sweats on the sideline. :(

Well, you use the TGH grade curve and keep it at an A+.

    It really doesn't matter.
None of these draft picks will have gotten their physical yet.

I gave it an A. My favorite pick was Harmen considering it was a BPA at and need. If he can push the pocket, ala Cam Heyward, it will free up Watt and Highsmith to make even more plays.

After watching Kaleb Johnson, I'm hoping he isnt another Najee. He looks great when the hole is big but does seem to go down after first contact. Maybe I'm wrong here. I do like his vision and patience compared to Najee's as he cuts back and runs to a hole and not up the back of his lineman. Was hoping for more of a speedster with quickness and acceleration but that doesn't seem like it's the Steelers way as they like these big backs. Hope he is our new Leveon Bell as he does fit the offense that Arthur Smith is trying to use.

Sawyer looks like he has a dont quit motor and power but he looks stiff in the hips and doesn't bend well. Hope TJ can take this young man under his wings and work with him on moves.

After watching film on the top QBs before the draft, not named Cam Ward, I thought Howard looked the best as a passer and reading defenses, getting the ball out on time. I wanted Milroe due to the potential he brings as a runner/arm strength but he needs some work on his passing game. Shaduer looked slow to process and get the ball out and sometimes looked like he was just throwing the ball up and hoping his WR would make a play so im glad we didn't go that route.

Yayah Black was a nice get and hopefully we can pencil him in at NT and he its up blockers and allow our fast LBs to make plays. This is why Ray Lewis was so good. They always had that big NT to keep the Olineman off him. Also he should allow Benton to be a DT which I think is his more natural spot.

A-, if they had somehow gotten a safety or CB maybe with the third rounder i give them an A. But they needed a RB anyway so, still a good draft, could've been slightly better

The Steelers had the 6th best rushing defense. I think your memory is skewed by facing the Ravens 3 times in one season. (#1 rushing offense by a wide margin, so it wasn’t only the Steelers being stepped on.)

I’d agree with this if any part of it made sense

    But it doesn’t

Mason has had a 5 year chance and he has proven he is a good back up

Howard will be given a chance to prove himself in OTA, practice, camp, etc and if he proves himself he will get playing time

    I give a B+.
I liked who, and where they picked everyone....except DBs....., but as we all know it will be a few years before we know anything for freaking sure. I hope every pick was perfect, and that later people can comeback, and say....dang STD...You dumba$$ all those guys are HOFers, and you only gave it a B+. That's what I hope.

    Overall I liked it.

Harmon injury news puts a little damper on that pick, hopefully that is nothing but as someone pointed out (dont remember who) Khan is establishing himself as taking on payers with injury risks. These guys are dropping to us for that reason.

Would have rather have Skattebo than Johnson but the pick should have been Xavier Watts. I saw he went after that, would have been a good addition to the secondary.

Could have added a RB next round or pick Sawyer anyway and looked to a FA RB.

Howard was great value in the 6th, that pick was the cherry on top for me. Even if he doesn’t pan out as a starter, they should at least have a capable BU for years to come.
