Exactly. Sure, there is a 3 ring circus that comes along with Sanders but how about his QB skills and abilities? He's going to be in the NFL and drafted where he belongs - mid to late round draft pick.

It's two things, his projection and the way him and his team have veen thru the draft process and over the 6 months procedding that, there's a lot more details coming out now. This isn't just some rumour thrown out there it's becoming a consensus opionion, and of course no GM high ranking official is ever going to put their name to something like that in any case - that's just how the world works. Multiple teams have passed on him multiple times now, it's not just one thing it's both.

But.. but… the all knowing Ian Rappaport said it went great. You know, that Rappaport guy who said Ben was retiring in 2017.

If teams thought he was starter capable they would have overlooked the media circus his presence would bring. Now that he’s viewed as a backup teams are saying I’m not dealing with that crap over a backup

I agree with this 100%. Look at GP as an example. Steelers reportedly have being fielding calls to see if they want to trade GP. They know his issues but still are proceeding. This tells me two things really. Some teams don't mind character issues and I suspect they nievely think they won't have the same issue because of the coaching dynamics while others teams are willing to turn a blind eye toward as a trade off for the quality of play.

Do you want that the steelers draft Sanders in the fourth or 5th round today?

I'd take him at 123 if he's still available.

How many QBs left in this draft are better day 1 than Skylar Thompson? If you think there is one, logic would say to draft him at your next opportunity. Not because of round value. Because of position value. Upgrading the QB room is the most logical move you can make in this position.

If the Steelers have some secret deal with Rodgers already that nobody knows about then roll with what you have. But if not, you still need a QB.

Answering this question the way you asked it why would you use a fourth when you could use a fifth

(and we can all use a good fifth)

Now the question would be if you think he will still be there in the fifth

There is no secret deal with Rodgers

Both sides have been open about this

I just posted a quote from AR2 somewhere here

I think if they dont take a QB in the 4th rd, whoever that may be, doesnt have to be Sanders than I think they already have Rodgers in place and its been gamesmanship by Tomlin and company.

And the quote you are referring to by Rooney makes me believe that even more by saying whoever they take wouldnt play this year, he’ll sit and learn and develop. Im paraphrasing but that was the gist. Well if you have Rodgers, any QB they draft is sitting this year.

He was the second best qb on the field against Penn State…the only thing Howard could do was run.

If you talk to Ohio State fans in the beginning of the season, they wanted Howard benched.

He has to have more upside than Rodgers or Rudolph. If Rudolph was so Great, the titans wouldn’t be drafting #1. If we are talking about head cases? We are waiting around for a guy that supposedly disrupted the Jets locker room.

There seems to be two schools of thought with the media; first school, despite what talking heads said, Sanders wasn't viewed as a starter by NFL scouts. The other school is he has some talent but did not impress (i.e. bad interviews) during one-on-ones with team leaders. If you combine the two schools it pretty much explains why he has dropped as far as he has. Keep in mind media types don't do interviews with these guys like teams do, so they don't get to see how he responds. Clearly, although scouts and media both see the same tapes, there is a difference between what the Daniel Jeremiahs/Dan Orlovkys see, and what the NFL teams see.
