we will probably bundle up a trade with TJ, minkah, seumalo and pickens and move up in the draft and get a center. :dancing::cool:

I hope so. But I can see Steelers wasting another 1st round pick on QB if Sanders falls to 21.

I was just doing some re-evaluations.
That was a decent blue-collar draft because they picked 3 OL. It should be noted they had some good positions 1,2,3,3 and 4.
Frazier looks to be a long term solution.
Fautanu looked good but wound up injured, so he is indeed a good pick but with a asterisk for now. (I think he'll be good but proof is in the pudding)
    McCormick - pretty much ditto.
They got a good LB in Payton Wilson, not dominate but good.

They reached on the WR Wilson. He wasn't that good anyway, and is more of a blocking type guy. I think they were trying to duplicate a former WR here. :)

    The Steelers 2024 Draft Class:

Troy Fautanu – Offensive Tackle – Round 1
    Zach Frazier – Center – Round 2
Roman Wilson – Wide Receiver – Round 3
    Payton Wilson – Linebacker – Round 3
    Mason McCormick – Guard – Round 4
Logan Lee – Defensive End – Round 6
Ryan Watts – Defensive Back – Round 6

Looking at the Offense, it is really not awful.
What are the problems? Not able to score points consistently, unable to run at will, passing game was weak.
Needs: QB, WR depth, RB (?)

Mason can throw the long ball.
DK Metcalf is definitely an upgrade.
Pickens should be highlighted because you never know which Pickens is on the field and because of that he is a weak link and therefore the need to add WR's to make his antics less of impact.

RB - I say RB only because I question Warren as the bell cow. I like to watch Warren, he brings it on every down. I just don't know if he's the payload guy....
If the O-line can stay healthy I think that helps both Mason and Warren do a better job.

I do think I am being overly optimistic on the QB though. Mason is not going to win the big games where the QB makes the difference. He will also flounder at times to weaker teams. Last year he was terrible.... stunk the joint up.
They said they are bringing 4 to camp, and hopefully 1 of the two is either a decent backup or a capable starter.

So Mr Omar and his war room should have been setting on a draft that focuses on adding impact players. They may do that but proof is in the pudding, again.

I'm not even talking Defensive needs yet. They had a lot of issues trying to get off the field last year.

It's been several years now we had to abandon (well, never HAVE to, choose to) drafting best available and draft for need. A few poor drafts late in Colbert term set us WAY back. Add in Tomlin and his poor assistance coaching choices and players simply weren't being developed very well.

I remember during late 90s and most of the 00s and 10s the Steelers didn't have any SERIOUS holes coming into drafts. Weaknesses, sure, in a cap era, every team has them, but rarely a "have to draft an OT or DE or FS" kind of thing.

Maybe having a high quality, franchise QB helped that, helped mask some weaknesses on both sides of ball. Hurts when FA shopping with a QB taking up 15 or 20% of the cap, but helps to keep band-aids on the team ouchies.

I hate that we've gone into the past several drafts with serious holes and every team knows we're desperate for a couple of positions. I am all but certain a team will trade with Broncos to nab what Steelers are coveting. Maybe though, it will be a GOOD thing. Maybe we're coveting a future bust. HAH. Save us from ourselves.

All that said, I will NOT be upset if they take a Dart or Milroe at 21. IF they see enough to think the weaknesses are overblown and easily correctable or schemed out, cool. Remember Milroe played NOT under Saban-lead Bama this year, so its very possible the coaching has already taken a downturn there. Bama didn't have any stud WRs like they usually do. I like Dart, I like Milroe's strengths, but like many not really sure how bad or underrated his passing skills are...the great unknown, but man, the speed, the strength, if we want a dual-threat QB, looks to me like Milroe or Dart, the rest are more passing and scramble only when needed types.

You can NEVER have too many Centers. Wait, that might be the NBA. Or is it hockey? Whatever, centers are obviously important...DO IT!

I think our first round pick comes from the following player pool

    Derrick Harmon
    Kenneth Grant
    Shedeur Sanders
    Jaxson Dart
    Omarion Hampton
    Trevon Henderson

Grant/Sanders/Henderson are the favorites for each position. We end up with any of the 3 of these players, I am happy.

Yeah, I think we’re higher on the other two… but that’s just a personal opinion. I’d be quite disappointed if we took Milroe. If we likes Milroe so much, we could’ve just spent more money on a better version of Milroe in Justin Fields. Fields is just as good of a runner and has a much higher ceiling as a passer than Milroe has.

    Nice summary.
I've always been a student of 'doing what needs to be done to get your QB' in place.
I understood the Mason selection and time to see what he could do.
I think it was obvious though that Ben's last 2 years was on borrowed time and Mason wasn't filling us with any confidence.
But we have suffered through years with names like Brister, Malone, etc....

I don't see Sanders at 21 but I wonder about Dart.
Dart impressed me, but I think he's a guy that might need a little time. I had him down as maybe a Bo Nix type but slower development.
I'd like to get him in the 2nd but we don't have a pick there.

I think most Steelers fans would be happy with Harmon or Grant. Both are worthy values at 21 and they would fill a need in the short and long term.

If they use that first-round pick on a running back, not using the fifth-year option on Harris was a huge mistake.

My surprise prediction would be...... picking Treyveon Henderson in the 1st. My logic is.... Arthur Smith's success has been with a stud RB and mediocre QB..... well we have a mediocre QB in Rudolph.....I can't see Warren as a full time back and we have NO 2nd round pick so any 3rd-7th round RB might just be a mixed bag of what we already have at RB. Henderson might be debatable as a 1st rounder, but I don't see drafting Sanders, Dart or Milroe and expect them to start on day 1.

Yes, I know we need DL help too and would be happy going DL in the 1st, but not sure that helps us win with the woeful offensive roster as it sits now. Painted into a corner without that 2nd rounder unless they come up with some wild trade or draft deal.

I was thinking maybe Pickens could be traded for draft picks if it was a good enough offer to Khan. It could be with a team that thinks they are just one key player away from serious contention/Super Bowl and are therefore willing to cough up some of their picks. Washington is an up-and-coming contender, and they have Philly in their division to get by.

KC`s Super Bowl window is wide open, maybe them. A couple others fit this description.

then we haven't advanced anything past last year. we will still have no #2 WR. having them both is what will make us dangerous even if it's mason rudolph. add a stud RB and we can compete.

Unless this running back become much better that Harris...I agree that if this is about the same,it make no sense for the steelers to take a RB in the first round
