I may be in the minority here... but I don't see this as devastating if Sanders goes. It hurts in the short term, but honestly Manny is always hurt and I see him as a mediocre #2 receiver at best.

One year deal is curious. If they're giving up a pick then you'd think they'd want to lock him up long term.

However, it also means that the cap hit will all be THIS year which hurts our chances of retaining him. It also means the money guaranteed to be more than $1.3 million.

depending on what the pats offer him, we will have the opportunity to match, which is a good thing because I truly believe losing him would hurt big time...... yes, he's had his struggles with injuries since our last super bowl appearance, but keep in mind that he was actually ahead of Antonio brown on the depth chart.. brown was only able to emerge because of sanders' injuries.. sanders has great upside and barring another injury, would be very productive in our offense......... I aslo feel that we have too many other needs to have to dedicate too many picks to re-stock the wr position, even if one of those picks is an extra one........... here's hoping that the pats offer is not out of our reach

I think Sanders is using this to try and get a long term deal out of the Steelers.

WOW! I was starting to think that when it came to restricted free agents, that there was some unwritten code that other teams didn't go after their players like this. Leave it to Belichick to prove that theory wrong...

I think it's just nobody wants to pay money AND give up picks for a player. I think BB is an idiot. They've now spent 4 picks on plays from this draft already... 3-Sanders, 4-Talib, 5- Haynesworth, 6-Ochocinco

Trust me, Sanders will have his best year ever with Brady in New England. Sometimes, I don't understand the front office.

First off they might match it, we don't know... So to criticize a move they haven't made yet is pretty silly.

Second... Sanders is never healthy, and foot injuries are one that can keep coming back (look at ahmad bradshaw). Sanders has been a solid depth guy, but I'm not sure he's ever going to be a top 2 receiver on our team. It will hurt in the short term, but I'd take the pick, for sure.

There's no guaranteeing he would've signed a reasonable long term contract next season anyway.

i don't think we would have earn a 3rd compensation in 2015 , so take the pick and run

I just read that Ben's passer rating when throwing at Sanders last year was just 79.6, below Brown, Wallace and Cotchery. I like Sanders but I think Kaboly is right, send the Pats a thank you note.

I think this is a little foreshadowing too, if Sanders is trying to squeeze the Steelers for everything he can now, how's he going to behave at the end of next season? We'll lose him without any compensation. Theres several WR in this draft that I really like, lets grab a couple of them. Think they should try and grab Tyler Eifert too if they can, give Ben a bunch of new toys to play with.

If we do not match the offer I think this tells us we are selecting a WR in round one. Hopefully Patterson out of UT!!! He will be a BIG star for someone. Hopefully us!!

I wouldn't be so sure. I've heard they like Patterson but you never know. He's a high ceiling/low floor type of guy. I could still see us going LB in round 1 and waiting to see who falls into the 2nd. (Remember, with an extra third we'd have ammo to move up)

After thinking about it, I'm ok if Sanders leaves. If he does have a big year, there's no way we could afford to sign him next year, so we'd lose him for nothing. A third round pick for him is great value, especially on a team with as many needs as we have.

With the extra $1.3 million, maybe it helps us sign Bradshaw in the next couple weeks, assuming we are comfortable with him medically. The stop gap he provides at RB would mean we wouldn't have to go after a RB on the first 2 days of the draft. Sanders departure would mean we definitely address WR early, but now we have an extra pick to play with, which makes using an early pick on a WR more tolerable. Woods in the 2nd or Bailey in the 3rd could be nice WR pick ups.

If they don't match it, it's THEIR decision! And I'm talking about all the moves and non-moves this offseason. It's a bit frustrating.

i agree with alot of what you are saying. i've always thought sanders was a good wr, and you are correct, he was ahead of brown at one time. he was also looking good last year. last years injuries were from catching the ball and taking hard hits. it's not the feet that hampered him the first couple of years.

now as far as the draft, we would need wr's anyway. 3 out of 4 will be FA's after the season. two of them old. it does free up a 3rd rounder and 1.3 mil..

my question is do we still receive a comp pick next year too? if so that's a 3rd, a minimum 7th and 1.3 mil. all in all. that's a pretty good deal if we do lose him. we should have some decent comp picks next year allowing us to move around some with our original round picks.

maybe brown, cotchery, buress as our starters to begin the year?

No Mac, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't receive a comp pick. I believe this would essentially be the same as us trading him. (don't quote me on that)

I would bet money if we let him walk we sign Steve Breaston, or I'd even look at Brandon Lloyd, because letting Sanders go does give us a little more wiggle room.

That would probably be very AA approved. Now, if we were still talking about Wallace, you'd probably be drunk by halftime.
