Seems like DT is the smartest, QB would not be a surprise, and a couple of RBs might be tempting if available. Never rule out a flyer at another position if a gem drops to 21. My preference would be to trade down for more picks.

If still on the board we will draft Derrick Harmon at 21

I think the Minnesota North Stars offered the Penguins their entire draft in exchange for the Penguins #1 pick overall the year Lemieux was drafted.

That would’ve been a steal…. For the North Stars.

I think this is the most likely scenario, but a QB would not be surprising.

I want Harmon or Grant, but the tea leaves don’t favor Grant. Nor do they favor Jahdae Barron, who I also really like at that spot.

This is where I'd be if I had a voice in the war room as well.

But the more I think about it, the more I'm concerned they go with Milroe, especially if somebody upstream takes Dart.
    • Rodgers seems less likely as time goes by.
    • There have been some whispers (unverified) that they weren't enamored with Sanders.
    • They just dropped $30M on a wide receiver - I can't see Rooney being happy to sit by and watch a year spent with Rudolph/Plan C behind center.
    • Metcalf and Pickens are both vertical threats, the only kind of ball Milroe throws with any proficiency.
    • If the vertical game opens up it pushes the defense back, helping the running game.
    • Tomlin has professed a liking for mobile QBs.
If Pickens isn't dealt, I fear they see this as a win-now team and start pressing some decisions. The only three QBs that should viewed as having any shot at being a Day One starter are Ward, Sanders, and Shough. Personally, I'd take Shough over Milroe at 21, but I don't think they would. If they see Milroe as a first-round talent they'll see him as a better investment because of his age and upside.

    Hope I'm overthinking this one.

I don't think you are....I was on the road today for my work, and just about every sports talk show was saying Milroe to us at 21...

If you like Shough he will be available in the 4th round or later.

I'd maybe even be alright with him in the third. My read has been that the combination of late hype and the QB tax will push him him further up than that. I don't want them over-drafting, but if they feel they have to draft a QB in the first round to compete for the job this year, I like him over Milroe.

Milroe's a project that I can't see this group developing, despite the allure of his physical traits.

If all 3 DTs are still on the board, who would you take between Nolen, Grant, and Harmon?

Grant's 17 in the bench is a little scary, but at least he tried. Dereck Harmon refused to bench at both the combine and his Pro Day; what is up there Pec Injury? Nolen came in with a respectable 27 reps.

I think Grant would make an immediate impact at NT, and then could follow in Benton's footsteps and move to the outside after Cam retires. I also would think Grant could replace Cam when he watns to take a break and the Steelers go with just 2 D-Lineman in passing downs.

I still believe the Steelers base is a 5-2.

Tough call. Tomlin doesn't seem interested in a NT, so Grant is out, but he'd be my pick. Seems like a coin flip between Nolen and Harmon. The consensus is that Harmon is better at run stopping, and the Steelers spent some time with him, so I would go with Harmon. There is some noise about a shoulder concern with Harmon, but it isn't specific and might a head fake by someone.

One would hope that he was playing coy over the fact that while built like a NT, Grant's athleticism is special and projects him to become a three-down player in the league.

    But considering the speaker...

    Roethlisberger likes him some Dart;

“Man, he can just make the ugly look good. And I’m not saying he’s perfect. No one is, but there are just some things that I was really impressed with how he played the game,” Roethlisberger said. “When I watched him play the games at Ole Miss, I’m like, ‘Man, there’s something about him. I like it.’ To me, when you say that there’s something about him, that’s that intangible thing.”

I get what he’s saying. There’s a lot to like in Dart. I do think he needs a year to develop though. If he’s the pick at #21 I’m good with that.

Grant did 22 on the bench at the combine, and 29 at his pro day. Nolan didn't lift at the combine. I agree with you about Grant, my only reason for favoring Harmon is that there will be good 0 techniques available later in the draft while there won't be good 5 techs available in the 4-6th. But if they go with Grant my television is safe.

I feel like Omar likes to wheel and deal..... 21st pick, they trade back and attempt to get a pick late 1st with possibility of adding a 2nd. Too many immediate needs to work with our current picks.

Grant is the guy I want. I hope Tomlin sees that he is more than a traditional nose. We need bigger men on the line. Harmon is more of what we already have. Not sure how that helps us out against the run at all.

Its a pipe dream to think the Steelers will double dip at DT in this draft.

They will draft Grant. All the talk about the nose tackle having gone the route of fullback is a smoke screen.

    My order
    Grant
    Dart
    Sanders
    Ole Miss DT
    Hampton
Harmon ( injury issue drops him)
    Milroe

But i think Grant is their #1 target.

He is the guy Tomlin wants too. He is simply putting up a poker face. Not a very good ine i think.

We really only have 3 needs.
DT, QB and RB. Everyone else is just added benefit.

Grant would be my pick...... the 3-4 defense doesn't work without that monster in the middle, and if Tomlin really has no interest in a true nose, then that's just another indictment on him and his ability to pilot this ship.....
If Grant is gone by pick 21 (which i think he will be), I would be happy with either Derek Harmon, Walter Nolen, or Tyliek Williams
